American here. Lamb shanks are my favorite. Slow cooked until falling apart, then used to make Scotch Broth.

The name Brighthaven lures with promises of summery joy and relaxation. The wise know better.

I keep going back to look at the sweetgum leaf. It is so beautiful. Don’t get those in Minnesota.

That is wonderfully shiversome. I look forward to the book (even if it is restricted to the UK - it needs to exist).

In unusual things seen today, I present the Kemp’s Moobile.
A red Volkswagen Beetle with a Kemps dairy products logo on the door and a 3/4 effigy of a black and white cow sticking out of the back. The cow is smiling. It is up to something.

A perfect tiny autumn leaf on my husband’s hand.
An open palm holds a tiny yellow-veined red leaf, not much bigger than a man’s thumbnail.

A folklorist sees the modern far-right trigger motifs and reads it like a folk tale of distraction ... #vegans #tampons #toilets #NationalTrust. So simple. Don't be a sucker. See through it.

Actually, I'm going to throw my hat out: would anybody like to have me on their podcast/newsletter to talk about Appalachian pulp, folklore, witchlore, and the benefits of weirding historical fiction? I think these stories are good, and I want to talk about them!

Fuck Prime Day. PDFs of GHOST DAYS and IN THE SNOW, THE JUNGLE are on sale for just 3$ today, which means you can grab this fully illustrated short story collection AND its followup novella for just $6.

I love it! It reminded me of Victor Jory as Oberon in the 1935 A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Black and white portrait photo of Victor Jory as Oberon and Anita Louise as Titania. Oberon wears a black glittering outfit, back cape, and a magnificent open face cowl of the same material as his outfit. It is topped with darkly gleaming organic looking branches. Titania, who is seen only from the upper shoulder on up, has long platinum blonde hair and is wearing a wreath of flowers.
