Today I learned that stalking a 17 year old girl, writing up a 400 page 'dossier' about her, falsely reporting her to the police and smashing her phone does not constitute 'harassment'.

One wonders what *would*.

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

One of the most colorful figures in the black market for ancient art has died. For @lrb.co.uk, I wrote about Jonathan Tokeley-Parry - a smuggler who made fake fakes to defeat border inspections to get Egyptian artifacts to the UK and US, whose downfall both changed and didn’t change the market.
‘By his own estimate, Jonathan Tokeley-Parry smuggled three thousand antiquities out of Egypt in 65 trips over six years. His success was down to his skill as a “fabricator”.’

Jonathan Tokeley-Parry, who died last month, had a business card in the early 1990s that described him as ‘Jonty “...

So...

A back injury bad enough to warrant an A&E MRI scan who then insisted on specialist spinal treatment.
Cracked vertebrae & herniated/bulging discs really stops you doing stuff.

Just told that NHS wait times are so long that the soonest help will be a phone consultation in Feb at the earliest.
OK, going to have trouble paying rent again this month due to back injury.

Would appreciate so much the spreading of my online shop to get some cool orders sent out next week.
All signed.

Little Mari is *reading* M.R James’ ghost stories to some festive ghosts (who are very scared)

Note: Little Mari cant read and most likely all the ghost stories she tells revolve around ghosts stealing toast

Dracula would have been more enjoyable to read if this had happened

(I didn’t like the diary structure nor the complete obliviousness of Harker when the old man was crawling the castle and suddenly got younger)
I did like reading today about one Bulgarian way of misleading vampires, by finding their left sock and throwing it away filled with grave soil, so that the vampire is compelled to find

Finished Killing the Dead - Vampire Epidemics from Mesopotamia to the New World by John Blair

I found this book absolutely fascinating, it reveals how corpse killing both were influenced and inspired Vampire lore across the world. 430pages but really captivating.
