Mariners in the lead! 2-1 in the 6th. If they can hold on through the bottom of the 6th, then I’m going to bed on a high note since I’m falling asleep anyway.

Here in Canada it’s illegal to practice fake witchcraft.

That being said, it is perfectly legal to practice real witchcraft.

I want the Mariners to win the ALCS, but if they don’t, I will def be rooting for the Blue Jays in the World Series.

I’m so impressed at how you took them from so scraggly to utterly gorgeous. What happy, healthy, perfect little cats.

The Mariners looked pretty good in their first half inning. Of course, their pitchers may still be wrecked from Friday.

Diplomats meeting at the open window.
On the left is a Siamese mix sitting on her haunches while on the right is a fluffy gray tabby. They’re sort of looking the camera. Each is at an end of an open window.

In the threatening sense of “I’ll fix you!”, I suppose she’s got a point. 🙄

Obviously, Qwilleran needs to get a carrier, but even if he’d had one, I think every human with a cat has been through this:
and called a taxi. Then he proceeded to stuff the cat into a canned tuna fish carton with airholes punched in the sides. Suddenly Koko had seventeen legs, all grabbing and struggling at once, and his verbal protests added to the confusion.
"I know! I know!" shouted Qwill-eran above the din. "But it's the best I can do."
When the seventeen paws, nine ears, and three tails were tucked in, and the cover clapped shut and roped, Koko found himself in a snug, dark, sheltered place, and he settled down. The only sign of life was a glis-

After being suspiciously energetic yesterday despite too little sleep, today I am energy free despite getting as close to a normal night’s sleep as I get.

We’ve been making the connection on First Branch Forecast that this is transparently why Vought is trying to destroy Congress’ constitutional position. It’s where that pluralism lives and tries to self-govern. Unfortunately, Johnson shares many of the same societal antipathies, is fine being a Duma

Vought is at war with large swaths of the population, with the very idea of a society defined by democratic pluralism. If you have correctly identified that this guy is now in a really powerful position, that people like him are in control of the government, how is that not the main story?

On to The Cat Who Ate Danish Modern from 1967.

Oh and the rhapsodizing about Siamese as magical and special as if every mutt doesn’t do all the same stuff was a bit off putting. Nothing wrong w/breed cats, but c’mon. Koko is compelling bc he’s a well realized cat not bc he’s characterized as a Siamese. +

Stuff that took me out included literal Orientalism, use of r- for developmental disabilities, a burly lesbian called Butchy (I may never stop rolling my eyes) and general purpose sexism. Good parts: anytime she was writing about Qwilleran & Koko. V believable as instant Cat Dad convert. +

Finished The Cat who Could Read Backwards (1st in series) and it was published in 19_66_ not 1986. Doesn’t make the offensive parts less so, but does make them make a bit more sense. And in the end, the part I thought was shaping up to be super gross ended up staying only moderately so. +

Cat shows up at 30%. About time.

Grr. I’m no longer making typos I used to make, but since moving to iOS 26, I’m making whole new ones. Apparently you have to hit the “e” harder than before? Along with the “r”. I’ve typed “th” and “fo” eleventy billion times since the switch and never beforehand. It also seems to hate “didn’t”.
amyewest.bsky.social
Also remember none of this, so I’m guessing I don’t read this one? I know I’ve read at least a couple, but not which ones.

First in The Cat Who series: published in 1986 and woo does it show. Also, am 26% in and no cat yet. Many mentions of cats, but not the actual goods. Hm.

I so rarely eat either: is there even any real difference in the batter? I make waffles every couple of years & I never have made pancakes with the batter, but it always seemed like it would work just as well that way.

I am so much pickier about the narrators for fiction books than non-fiction. A big part of why I mostly only listen to non-fiction. Also why I need the Vorkosigan books to get the Discworld treatment with famous actors reading them.

Ugh. So sorry. Been there and it really does put new depth to “this sucks”.
