NPR played a story about the history of Jiffy Mix this morning and… apparently some people use it for their cornbread dressing?!

My Alabama grandma is rolling in her grave. The second ingredient in Jiffy Mix is sugar—more sugar than cornmeal. Y’all really want dressing made out of cupcakes?

There's a whole swath of political media -- Semafor, Axios, Politico, etc. -- where the average piece reads like a press release commissioned by its subject rather than an objective and independent analysis of them.

This is just embarrassing.
Assuming this is related to Ben Smith I was honestly shocked by this, an astonishing bit of bootlicking from top to bottom

Reminder:

The use of tear gas as a method of warfare is prohibited under the 1993 Chemical Weapons Convention
Reminder of all the side effects of tear gas & it's just being deployed in residential neighborhoods for a gaggle or three of people who don't want their neighbors kidnapped.

ALSO, today’s 1,200 word front page story by the Strib’s retail reporter (the Strib doesn’t have a labor reporter) devotes exactly one sentence to Target’s blunders, implying that the boycott was brief.

I wonder whether the retail reporter ever reads the letters to the editor; this one ran on Sat.

Texas high-speed Rail 🚈

A seemingly sci-fi, nearly technologically impossible alien marvel that China and Mexico have mastered, but that Texas still dreams about as an off world perk of a mystical travel species

Where Train Dreams Meet Reality in Texas
Dallas and Houston are 250 miles apart. But if you want to take a train between them, prepare for a 23-hour odyssey that says a lot about where US passenger rail is heading.

New from me:

Letters from anti-abortion activists and Republican elected officials show stated goals of barring Planned Parenthood health centers from receiving any federal money and pulling them from the 340B drug pricing program, which allows for significant discounts on prescription drugs.
