Leaders of neither the Senate nor the House (nor, of course, the White House) can bring themselves to condemn a declaration of war, mass expulsion, and revoking citizenship of people based on their religion.
Some Republican lawmakers call for mass expulsion of American Muslims
Comments from Rep. Randy Fine (R-Florida) and Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) reflect a brazen Islamophobic sentiment being voiced by some in the party.

@klobuchar.senate.gov what the fuck is wrong with you actually, I’ll forever laugh at the story of my ex’s shitty mother getting you to cry over bringing up that your kids didn’t attend public school in MN years when she ran against you. Congrats on being in alliance with that Trumper now, I guess.
Here are the 28 Dem Senators who voted to advance the first federal ban on trans athletes & a federal definition of sex that would make trans & intersex people non-existent: Angela Alsobrooks (MD), Tammy Baldwin (WI), Richard Blumenthal (CT), Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE), Chris Coons (DE), ->
By a vote of 76-23, S 1071 passes the motion to proceed to the motion to concur. Won't know who voted for this until the roll call is uploaded, but safe to say it passed with the support of at least 24 members of the Democratic caucus. (Rand Paul probably voted nay and Steve Daines has been absent).

Jon Collins is really providing top-notch coverage lately. My favorite detail: the ICE dude who got pepper sprayed by the other ICE dude.
Hennepin County dispatch got a panicked call from a Department of Homeland Security supervisor in Minneapolis requesting assistance because “we only have a few officers but we have 60-70 agitators fighting them.” Hennepin deputies didn’t witness any attacks on agents.

That last 3 sentences.
When hate and gun violence struck a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach, Ahmed al Ahmed rushed toward danger and saved lives. His courage stands as a powerful reminder of our shared humanity. But no community should depend on heroics to feel safe. Safety and dignity must be guaranteed for all.

Outnumbering your enemy is not enough. *Strength* in numbers requires a shared sense of purpose. That must be cultivated. Understanding and relationships must be built. This is the work most people don't want to do. To turn moments into lasting movements, we need organization.

Immigrant-owned businesses are a vital part of Minneapolis. Across our city, small businesses are hurting, as fear from recent federal activity is keeping people home. Read more: https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/twin-cities-latino-somali-businesses-struggling-ice-operation-metro-surge

Great writing by @parkermolloy.com here. The word ‘Hypocrisy’ just doesn’t cover it anymore and it’s almost futile to continuously point out the double standards — but this was a thorough and well-written breakdown, well worth the read.

Good advice
One of the things the President is so masterful at is controlling the narrative.

I would argue that it is always to our advantage to *not* share his words/posts/clips - unless it's really, critically, necessary for context.

Reframe the narrative.

On Wed the House is going to vote on two bills, one that would ban Medicaid funding for youth gender affirming care (HR498), the second that would criminalize that care (HR3492) - I expect *at least one* will pass the House, potentially both.

Action alerts are already going out.

Rules will have a comment window where we can speak up; and later, I assume, litigate before they take effect. But either way, they will cause further disruption.

No matter what happens re: bills & rules, the damage caused by uncertainty and the threat of shifts in funding is real.

I would not be surprised to see more clinics limiting care access, closing programs, or otherwise adopting more risk averse practices.

More crucially, I know that all of this will come with a torrent of really awful and stigmatizing rhetoric.

It's going to be a heavy and hard time in a hard year.

Mpls Action
Action Steps:

Everyone: Call your House Reps and urge them to vote no.

Trans folks: Please, please, please, take care of yourselves on Wednesday and Thursday especially. Don't let the hate sink in. Stay strong, stay in community, and remember that we can do this.

& allies...
