The bill now goes to the House and will be directly competing with the House's Defense spending bill, HR 3838. Currently waiting on the roll call upload to see which Democratic Senators felt it was more important to fund the military than protect trans people and people of color.

The abundantly fascist S 2296 passes the Senate by a vote of 77-20. The bill would gut a multitude of DEI initiatives, programs, & reports conducted by the Department of Defense, ban trans women from armed service collegiate sports, and ban TriCARE from covering trans healthcare.

By a vote of 47-50, the Senate did not adopt the Merkley amend #3927, to limit the use of Federal law enforcement officers for crowd control, and for other purposes to S.2296, FY26 NDAA.

Duckworth amendment fails 46-52. Up now is Tim Kaine's (D-VA) & Todd Young's (R-IN) amendment to repeal authorization for use of military force against Iraq. It wins by voice vote.

Schumer's amendment fails 46-50. Up now is Amd 3748, sponsored by Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) that would require the head of each state, territory, or DC to approve full-time National Guard duty in their location. Specifically, this amendment is aimed at giving DC power to refuse the Nat Guard.

Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is now introducing Amd 3109, which would ban procuring or modifying foreign planes for presidential use. Deb Fischer (R-NE) rises in opposition, noting that the Doomsday Plane was bought from South Korea and would have to be shuttered as the bill is written. We have a hand vote.

While I'm catching up, the current debate and soon vote will be on Amd 3213. It's sponsored by Roger Marsahall (R-KS) and it is effectively an LGBTQ+ flag ban on government property. It just failed by voice vote.
