Thanks to his new Tesla pay package, Elon Musk could stand to make $3 billion more per year than all 1.4 million elementary school teachers in the U.S. combined. Still wondering if inequality is out of control?

As someone who drove free buses (and rode free buses) in Iowa City for years: the quality of life improvement that comes from quality, accessible public transit cannot be overstated. I wish it for everyone, everywhere.
Here's an idea, double parking fees (from $1 to $2), raise utility taxes by 1%, and make buses free. Iowa City did that and reduced traffic by 5,200 cars and emissions by 24,000 metric tons of co2/year.

Not keen on all the unnamed sources, but the most interesting parts are a) if the U thinks they will win the PR battle, they are once again proven ally-less and b) biz community surprised that Ellison is effective shows their cartoon view of him was always wrong

Would another President be better? IMO, the problem is the concentration of power in admin, which means the people who care and know the most about the institution (staff and faculty) have no say in how it is organized and run.
Rebecca Cunningham should resign. She was brought in because of her supposed expertise to negotiate a deal for the U hospital and medical school and has made a complete hash of it, while increasing admin spending. She's failed us.

Sorting through my memories of everything that happened on Tuesday, and reflecting on how some of the first phone calls I got and first people I saw onsite were union leaders in Saint Paul. I don’t know that unions ever get the credit they deserve for showing up for ALL workers, all the time.

Summers should choose the most straightforward path and resign. Should he refuse to, though, the University must cut ties with its former president to the greatest extent possible.

This gets to the core of so much of what is wrong at UMN: (and most other universities): “When the Board of Regents realized there was such a conflict, shouldn’t they have asked some physicians to stand before them and give their perspective?” Yannopoulos said.
University of Minnesota administrators have fired more leaders of the doctors group that negotiated a controversial contract, signaling escalating tensions between Fairview Health Services and the U’s doctors.
More dismissals in U leadership as tensions rise over ‘secret’ Fairview deal
The firings stem from a Board of Regents directive to resolve ‘conflicts’ created by the doctor-Fairview negotiations, the U said.

It's very ironic that you can have a 'Brotherhood of Carpenters' which references brothers, but you can't have – because of DEI – a 'Sisters in the Brotherhood,'" says Kina McAfee, a retired union carpenter who is now on staff at Chicago Women in Trades.
How a small Chicago nonprofit is resisting Trump's war on DEI
Since 1981, Chicago Women in Trades has worked to promote equity by getting more women into the construction trades. Now the nonprofit faces a different challenge: Trump's efforts to erase DEI.

This is one of my favorite photos - it shows collaboration between 3 of the most important Black leaders of the 20th century. Anna Arnold Hedgeman is often cropped out -- yet she was as influential as Malcolm X and A Philip Randolph. Here, she's identified as Rosa Parks! Please, learn your history!
