Hi (thank you @dbrauer.bsky.social)! I'm Bree and I live in Minneapolis, which I hope was fairly obvious. I have a cool dog (@banjompls.bsky.social), and I'm a recruiter with many opinions. I like trivia, reading, fundraising, and meddling in politics. I'm learning Swedish so I can flee the U.S.

NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.

The military has a duty to refuse unlawful orders, but Congress has a duty to remove from office a president and secretary who would issue such orders. There is something off about members of Congress talking about the former while refusing to say the latter, the part that's actually their job here.

Gender-affirming care saves lives
1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

Call for Elon to be prosecuted.
DOGE was Elon Musk’s grand experiment in running our government like one of his companies: big promises, reckless cuts, and real people left hurting.

Now it’s been quietly shut down eight months early because it never came close to delivering the savings he bragged about.
DOGE Disbanded: Elon Musk’s Cost-Cutting Project Quietly Ended
Musk said the initiative would save at least $1 trillion. But its website claims to have reached only $214 billion.

They did the same thing for Covid. And it worked.
Any political “leader” still selling the obviously false choice between #ClimateAction and “the economy” is just reminding us that they clearly don’t understand either the climate crisis OR the economy.

Or they’re cynically hope that WE don’t understand the difference.

Or both.

Take the opioid that makes me barf in hopes that it kills the pain quickly enough for me to fall asleep and not barf, or suck it up and deal and hope eventually I can sleep?

Human bodies are so stupid, y'all.

If messaging out of Minnesota’s GOP to Congresspeople is any indication, our state is going to spend 2026 drowning in messages targeting Somali community, immigrants, and trans folks.

These aren’t “distractions” they’re active attempts to scapegoat anyone seen as “other.”

We must stand together.

I would love the opportunity to be in a fight with Warren. I'm so angry with her.
No one saying this has actually seen the movie Fight Club.
Wow — Senators Van Hollen, Smith, Murphy, Sanders, Warren, Markey, Merkley, Heinrich have created an official internal "Fight Club."

They're challenging Schumer & Gillibrand's leadership, arguing the party is using an old, corporate-friendly playbook insufficient to take on Trump or win elections.

I know there is research that suggests swearing has the ability to lower pain levels, or at least perception of pain, but how about just straight-up wordless screaming? 🤞🤞🤞

If I told my boss I'd do something and then seven months later I still hadn't done it, THAT WOULD BE A PROBLEM.

And make no mistake, MN-CD 5, she works for us.
Sooooo, @repilhan.bsky.social's comms director Jacklyn Rogers claimed, on April 9, that Omar supported impeachment. Yet she has done diddly squat that suggests that's true.

I've been trying to get a straight answer from Rogers for a week.

Who even are these clowns.
Update: she is IN. 💪💪💪

Welp, no response whatsoever. Terrible constituent service, or too chicken to answer the questions?

As the Trump regime murders and disappears more and more people, I'm truly boggled that The Squad isn't screaming for impeachment. Of all people, I would have expected it from them - I would have expected them to introduce articles daily (both to make a point and to be annoying). And yet.

Wait @smith.senate.gov is actually alive still? Her inaction with literally everything has been making me think she died right before her retirement announcement and her staff has been "Dave"ing it up since.
The mutinous mood of the senators — who include Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, Tina Smith of Minnesota, Christopher S. Murphy of Connecticut, Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts — reflects the widespread doubts among the Democratic base that party leaders in Congress have…

I have no doubt more Republicans will wuss out as the plausible deniability of their inaction on the fate of the nation evaporates for everyone.
Am I the only one holding on to this little bit of hope like grim death?

I absolutely loathe speed cameras and am dubious about their constitutionality, but I also can't argue with the data.
If you wondered like me if Rep Davids had a speeding ticket the answer is duh. 83 in a 65 but the copper locked it in at 81.

Do the uberwealthy not eat food? Make it make sense.

The EPA is starting to allow the use of pesticides containing PFAS on food.

The move is part of an effort to roll back the regulation of what are called "forever chemicals" because they don't break down easily in the environment.

She was the woman with MCAS who became allergic to her husband and crowdfunded for a hermetically sealed house down the street from me. She had weighed under 80 pounds for years and based on her husband's CB updates had a godawful quality of life, if it can be called that. Oof.
