Veronica De La Cruz on Instagram: "A U.S. citizen and Emmy-winning video editor/producer has been detained — and later released without charges — after being taken into custody by ICE agents in Chicago Friday morning. Videos show Debbie Brockman, an employee of WGN-TV, a local Chicago news station, being violently detained near Lincoln and Foster avenues in the Lincoln Square neighborhood. In the footage, Brockman identifies herself as someone who works for WGN-TV. While already handcuffed, a voice off-camera can be heard saying, “Bring her in by force if you have to,” before agents drag her into a van and speed off. Witnesses say agents rammed their van into Brockman’s car, then hit an SUV while fleeing the scene — tearing off its bumper in rush-hour traffic. The chaotic arrest happened during a federal immigration operation targeting a group of landscapers in the area. Federal officials claimed Brockman had assaulted an agent, but witnesses say they never saw her throw anything or act aggressively toward officers. WGN-TV later confirmed she was released from federal custody by 3 p.m. Friday with no charges filed. I don’t think people realize how close to the announcement the Nobel Peace Prize Committee (which is in Norway) decides the winner.

The committee this year chose the winner on Monday, just a few days ago.

This is based on the nominees that had to be submitted by the deadline of January 31, 2025.
