@timbray It is hashtag amazing what people do with hashtag language

A few weeks ago this sign said 45. I am partly responsible for the change.

Two years ago a driver killed a neighbor of mine in a nearby intersection. I badgered a bunch of city, county, and state traffic engineers and elected officials and they eventually […]

@vwbusguy Please report back.

So if I have two of a thing with a listed price of $5 each, I have $10 worth of thing. But if I have a billion of the thing, then when I start selling the price will go down as I sell so I have something less than $5 billion worth of thing. What is the name for this concept? What do I google?

A lot of the resistance to traffic enforcement seems to come from people taking it as a personal judgment on their decision to occasionally speed, check their phone while driving, or roll through a stop. So I want to be absolutely clear: Yes, I am judging your shitty, selfish, reckless behavior.

@enobacon @jyasskin For sure it has drawbacks! It also has the advantage that a lot of voters know who the governor is. Almost nobody knows who represents them at metro or trimet.

@jyasskin @enobacon The soil and water conservation districts are an amazing example of special districts run amok. Part of me thinks each resident should elect one city rep and one county rep and fold all the special districts under city or county control. No trimet, no fire districts, no metro […]

@enobacon @jyasskin an elected transit board would probably be an improvement. But I think we elect too many local positions anyway, and it's not like the elected BART board in the bay area is doing an amazing job.

@royal This is the beginning of a song, I think

@glennklockwood I barely skimmed the order, and what I see is a direction to identify resources at national labs that *could* be used for some kind of... LLM-directed laboratory work (or something). In other words, it's just an order to write a report, with no funding, and with no funding […]

[boring video game idea]

The super subtle artistic point, so deep and meaningful that the game will be a critical hit and a classic, is the connection between the low-attention-span tinder mechanic and the theme of decline and decadence. (4/4)

[boring video game idea]

More on the mechanic:

You see a provincial governor, and decide your relationship with a yes or no, no subtlety.

You see a potential rebel uprising, you can crush it or let it be.

You see a technology your empire is maintaining at great expense, you can keep it or […]

More on the theme:

"4X" games (explore, expand, exploit, ...) are a well-established strategy genre, you start with a single planet or castle or whatever and build up technology or armies and so on to expand.

My game will be "5D" (decay, decline, destruction […]

My bad video game idea.

Theme: manage the decline of a decaying galactice empire

Mechanic: Entirely Tinder-like left or right swiping. (1/)

@xerozohar Every time this comes across my feed, I am contractually obligated to mention that I have met this guy in person in real life.

@glennklockwood I don't doubt you, but does it make sense to *buy* market share? I mean, you *sell* stuff to get market share!

@Ryan I was taught a bunch of not always consistent things: (a) no real purpose, Jesus overturned it like the pork and shellfish stuff; (b) reveals God's design for your individual balance of work and leisure; (c) a merciful social system that prevents economic oppression; (d) spiritual purpose […]
