The main staff accompanist here at UGA did a recital like this a few years back: all the random small pieces by Tchaikovsky that are playable by anyone.

He’s an amazing natural horn player. I am not surprised. I played—as part of the Mozarteum horn class that summer— the Dauprat sextet with him on first.

He was a good natural horn teacher too there. I wouldn’t exactly call myself great at it, but I’m good enough to be dangerous.

Hey former teacher of mine Johannes Hinterholzer mentioned!

RE the last post: I would say there’s a number of 20th century pieces that are approachable. If you can explain the pieces correctly most students do not hate a lot of the weirder works.

However I don’t know if I’ve ever been able to explain Stockhausen. That might be a lost cause.

Before the late 1800s, the European canon is extremely approachable! Little kids understand it effortlessly! It was meant to be enjoyed! Even the late Romantic stuff is mostly accessible and sounds good without a lot of insider knowledge! It only stops being fun in the 20th century.

It really sucks that snob gatekeepers framed classical as high brow music so now any time you talk about it, people assume you're trying to signal intellect

But the music itself isn't pretentious, thats cultural baggage. I just like it when sounds are arranged in a cool way, like any other genre

Reading both the Crying of Lot 49, and Buddenbrooks one after another, means I am now wildly familiar with the 18th mid century German post system. Namely Thurn und Taxis.

Too many post horns have been referenced.

How does the laundry keep piling up, who wears all these clothes????

Hahahaha, I know. I met Lars Stransky once and he was at that point the new 4th horn of Vienna, and he said he had never had to practice so much in his life.

Yes… this exact thing happened to me with some of the Germans. Ended up being Marie-Luise being the one who actually explained what to do/helped me play it.

Thing. Oh well. Same difference.

Oh absolutely. One of the auditions I won, I had to play 8 super high excerpts in the final round to basically prove that ping.

Not 1 or 2… in the years I’ve been doing them. I’ve seen 3-6 programmed in the past 10 years.

Especially when it’s a small orchestra too.

Me (Yojimbo) watching the government (his first master) flail about and ruin everything.

through a series of unfortunate mishaps i've had Yojimbo open in my backup browser tab for 3 days and every time i've seen the screen i paused on i feel like there's something i could do with it. no idea what though
yojimbo eating in the house of his first master who plans on betraying him. he is, of course, perfectly chill

I mean I know enough to actually explain what’s going on and all. But I can’t tell you super fine detailed differences between and Schmidt and a geyer, for example.

I need to learn more about valve systems. When certain horn players come and start asking me questions about my horn… my eyes start to glaze over and I freeze. I know how to blow in tube.

Video game concert today. Most favorite character of the musicians? Luigi!

The dress for tomorrow’s video game concert is all black, or favorite video game character.

If I go as MissingNo, do I get paid like 7x what I normally would?

What should we expect when we get there? (I too enjoy planning in this way)
