Americans, who are having Columbus Day weekend right now, are the ones conflating that with Canadian Thanksgiving, which is also this weekend. OP did not make the false connection, the Yanks did. It's because those two are the same day, not anything to do with American Thanksgiving at all.

I feel genuinely pretty confident that bluesky is getting hit by the same kind of troll farm astroturfing that tumblr had in 2016 🤷🏻‍♀️ it just all feels off, like a lot of noavatar accounts trying to generate new controversy in every thread. But it's newly awkward in a way that stands out.

The algorithms in my media have been trying much more forcefully than normal to trick me into following alt right accounts disguised as "how to help your community" and I am both really worried about the people who will fall for it and heartened that they've needed to revive efforts to take over. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ok, here: I'm not interested in giving you an example because Google is still free and if you skip the AI results it'll still get you there. Instead, I'll reiterate that the truth used selectively for the purpose of manipulating people's opinions or actions is still propaganda.

In Canada, the UK, & other places people under 30 are understood to be, on average, at a different place in their lives than people over 30. 18-30-year-olds are a demographic category referred to as "young adults," and that is not a commentary on their capacity or maturity, literally just their age.

You're being told that your understanding of these terms does not apply to the article or the research, both of which were done in a context where the phrase "young adult" has a specific definition that is entirely distinct from "minor." It just doesn't MEAN THAT. This argument is absurd.

Buddy I'm sorry to break it to you but different cultures have different breakdowns of social age categories, AND young adults are assumed to be fully adults just... Without a lot of experience? Which is accurate. They've got a lot of adult years to learn from still.

The problem with left-leaning media is they're intrinsically more strict with their propaganda to only using verifiable sources so it's really hard to poke holes in their ideology and arguments in comparison to a lot of low quality rightwing content.
That makes attacking their points with fact checkers not very effective unless the fact checkers use misinformation tactics as well.
In essence people on the right have to work harder and more creatively to push their agendas as statistics and studies frustratingly arent usually on our side.
