It is not our moral responsibility to coddle the delusional fears and bigotries of white supremacists. It is not our moral responsibility to change reality for them so they can hold onto those fears and bigotries.

It is our moral responsibility to make their fears and bigotries THEIR problem.

The fact that Bad Bunny's halftime show made white bigots angry and feel excluded is A GOOD THING. It's one of the best things about it. It's not a problem to solve. It's a solution to pursue. Bigots *should* feel excluded. We should find *more* ways to celebrate the reality of USian diversity.

I expect they would be happy to consider a white person born in Puerto Rico to be appropriately American without hesitation.
they fired everybody who knows that Puerto Ricans are American
The Super Bowl halftime show, with Bad Bunny showcasing Latin music before a global television audience expected to top 100 million, will illustrate the nation’s immigration divide whether or not the reggaeton star delivers an explicit political message.

I wrote a mediocre essay in 2020, now lost to time, about how children's adventure films are part of the lie adults tell ourselves when we let ourselves get too used to the routine. It's not the kid's job! Adults have much greater access to power and resources! It's OUR job. All of it.
😭 our kids should not have to save us because far too many adults in far too many rooms have created the material conditions under which our children must fight

I see "we got them out of LA and Chicago!!" way too often. I'm begging people to try to dedicate just one more ounce of attention to the thing that isn't Today's Thing. It's still everybody's fight and everybody's still fighting.
ICE is still snatching people in Southern CA, Los Angeles county and blocks from my house.

We don't have the large bullshit you're seeing in Minnesota or when they first pressed us...but they've never stopped.
ICE isn’t out of Minnesota. Enforcement hasn’t stopped; in many places it’s intensified. What changed wasn’t the raids, it was the coverage. As pressure grew, cameras shifted and Democrats redirected the conversation. But ICE activity in Minnesota is still very real & ongoing. #FuckICE #AbolishICE

I talked with three Minneapolis organizers, including Andrew Fahlstrom and Susan Raffo, about community defense in Minneapolis, the social fabric of collective care under federal occupation, and how people around the country should be gearing up for the long struggle ahead. Audio + transcript:
Minneapolis Community Defense Is “Riding on the Learning Edge of a Whirlwind”
“We are becoming the people that we always knew that we needed to be,” says Minneapolis organizer Andrew Fahlstrom.

We fail ourselves if we consider the acute and critical rise in fascist white supremacy to be an American phenomenon. The last 20 years have been similarly contentious across the colonized world. It's white male supremacy (necessarily held and passed on with aid of white women) all the way down.

It’s just racism. There’s no immigration problem
The US immigrant population generated more in taxes than they received in benefits from all levels of government every year from 1994 to 2023.

The Cato study provides the first-ever 30-year analysis of the fiscal effects of immigration on government budgets.

This is also why you have to understand things like residential schools as concentration camps. Those kids were there to have their culture erased not just from their bodies but from the world. If they lived, it took a lot of work to keep training them to properly honor whiteness.
death by preventable disease is an inevitable and even desired outcome of concentration camps. in every era of concentration camps people have died of typhus, which is a disease of privation and enforced crowding. this illness is intentionally inflicted

I need you to understand that most people know so little about immigration that they do not know there's a vast territory between undocumented/overstay and citizens. Their mind is citizen and non-citizen.
And not to put too fine a point on it, but a president who ran on eliminating “illegal” immigrants created a ton more “illegal” immigrants by canceling a bunch of actual real legal statuses. He took people off the path that everyone says they want people on.
I genuinely have no idea how to convey this to the American people, but I think the biggest impediment to any kind of immigration reform is that people are convinced that "legal" and "illegal" are immutable, intrinsic categories instead of a rapidly-shifting arbitrary constellation of regulations.
