Not to keep belaboring a dead horse, but this is the same logic underpinning the various Ezra Klein brouhahas; there has be a shared set of universal American values for, ergo, anything that enough people believe is inherently part of those values and cannot be gainsaid or condemned.

You think I'm exaggerating, but the @washingtonpost.com said it was unfair to say that Mike Pence supported conversation therapy because somebody else might have written the section of his campaign website where he said he supported conversation therapy.

In theory! It's kind of bolted onto a regional split between the established powers of the Core and the rising powers of the Mid and Outer Rim, as well as a division between humans and aliens, AND some vague attempts at imposing a liberals vs. conservatives contemporary politics framing.

This WaPo editorial presents a misleading revisionist history of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s criminal cases against Trump.

Then it has the gall to compare that to Trump’s overt targeting of his perceived enemies.

Really embarrassing stuff.

But the mere fact that a legal tool might be available does not mean it should be used. The
current rage over Grassley's revelation shows why. Smith showed little restraint in his pursuit of a former president. He charged Trump for official acts he took as president. He sought a gag order to limit Trump's ability to criticize the prosecution. He tried to accelerate the case to try a leading presidential candidate before the 2024 election.

Only thing surprising is that the police are trying to identity the perpetrator. In most of the US it is de facto legal to murder people with your car, can't imagine them even pretending to care about an incident where the victim survives.

Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.

Her explicit reason for leaving, by the way, was that when she live-tweeted a staff meeting and accused her colleagues of hating free speech and they publicly pushed back, management refused to discipline them for arguing with her. You can understand most contemporary media dynamics from that alone.

My statement on the two year anniversary of October 7, 2023.

“Two years ago today, Hamas carried out a horrific war crime, killing more than 1,100 Israelis and kidnapping 250 more. I mourn these lives and pray for the safe return of every hostage still held and for every family whose lives were torn apart by these atrocities.

In the aftermath of that day, Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Israeli government launched a genocidal war: adeath toll that now far exceeds 67,000; with the Israeli military bombing homes, hospitals, and schools into rubble. Every day in Gaza has become a place where grief itself has run out of language. I mourn these lives and pray for the families that have been shattered. Our government has been complicit through it all.

This must end. The occupation and apartheid must end. Peace must be pursued through diplomacy, not war crimes, and our government must act to end these atrocities and hold those responsible to account.
