I am so fucking over this "well we had it coming because of weakness or whatever" navel-gazing pity party bullshit. Not even the people that voted for the fucker deserve what's happening because we all - ALL OF US - deserve better than what the fuck is going on. I'm here to work to save ALL of us.
Fucking spare me. None of us, even the people that fucking voted for the creep, deserved this. This shit fucking blows and we should be pissed off about it, none of this "well America had it coming you know" nonsense. Fuck that noise.

“Took and sold his phone”? Da fuq they do with that money?
This is 10th-grader Arnoldo Bazan.

A citizen.

Immigration agents grabbed him and put him in a chokehold.

"We're from the United States bro!' he screamed.

Agents took and sold his phone

And when he finally got home hours later, his shirt was ripped, he neck had angry, red welts, and he sobbed.

but I'm not *not* saying that

Just wait until he gets to that Naglaria fowleri retreat and inhales that healing water deep into his sinuses
"I bet Aaron Rodgers is so upset right now because he lost and got tackled a lot" is honestly something that someone who's jealous about how much Raw Water he's about to consume would say. In a week his paramecium levels are going to be triple yours. A week later, triple that. Deal with it.

Trump filling the Fed with toadies is one of the most direct ways to "oops civil war now I guess" so if they can find a way to rules lawyer Powell into staying on the board until 2028 and just passing the chair between each other that would be ideal
FT Exclusive: US prosecutors’ criminal probe against Jay Powell has galvanised the Federal Reserve’s top leaders to resist Donald Trump’s attacks — and could push the chair to remain a governor until 2028. ft.trib.al/spoz6ej

There was an incredibly funny/offensive display at the Japanese Imperial War Museum (aside from all the other insanely offensive things there) that claimed that Japan was responsible for the independence of half of the western Pacific and just didn't mention who they gained independence from
hell, it's basically how the Imperial Japanese justified their attacks on China! the underlying sentiment behind the CPS was one that feigned de-colonialism and modernization

There was a window in which surging nuclear power capacity for base load to backstop renewables made a ton of sense, but with infrastructure battery storage on basically the same timeline as any big nuclear buildout...just build the batteries
Woah: Hochul wants New York to build *5 GW* of nuclear power, up from 1 GW she announced last year. That’s more than has been built in the US in the past 30 years.

via @syracuse.com:
Hochul ratchets up NY’s nuclear plans, aims to lead U.S. in building new reactors
Last year, the governor called for 1 gigawatt of new nuclear capacity. Now she wants 5 GW.

I learned recently whenever kids get a headshot in multiplayer, they sometimes call it "Getting Kirk'd"

Guys, I'm not worried. It's always stressful in the moment if you think terror is forever. It never lasts! And then kids say "Aw man I got kirked!" in fortnite *wellllll* after the terror ends.
genuinely Charlie Kirk may have been more degraded and demeaned by the Internet at this point than anyone else in human history

the universe is not always unjust

I am hoping punk makes a big comeback through all this but I will also happily take the return of sharp-edged intentionally political soul, blues, and folk
I was at a jazz club last night for a Nina Simone tribute and during "Mississippi Goddam," the singer built up the end by singing "Everybody knows about Minneapolios, everybody knows about Mississippi Goddam" if you want to know where culture is.

anyway as i have said many times — and literally just wrote on saturday — i think we should abolish ICE as well as unravel DHS and i welcome elected officials who embrace both outright but i am also aware that any senate majority will contain moderate and conservative democrats who need an on-ramp.

none of this literally means “pass a training bill.” politics is a rhetorical game and if you are committed to ending the agency called ICE “bad training” can serve the same purpose as “the death tax”
January 12, 2026 at 4:47 PM
"Investigate every agency member, prosecute anyone who participated or directed illegal actions, fire the rest and completely change the agency's purpose" is a method of again changing the shape - say, form - of ICE. "Re-" is a prefix that describes such repetitive actions. Please learn rhetoric.
okay since it appears i have to spell this out even more: “training” — a thing that sounds good to sensible moderate voters, who exist and are uncomfortable with sudden change — can, if we make it, be a stalking horse for “moves that effective neuter the agency”

there's a country that is dying to buy from ASML and that they are not doing business with because the US has told them not to
There is a lever that isn't named yet that the EU has to pull if they want to hurt the US - ASML. Their photolithography tech is a requirement for any advanced chip manufacturing, and they're complex enough ASML is on site to make sure they work. Ban export and service and US chip making dies.

the entire administration is making content for twitter nazis and they are convinced that those twitter nazis are genuinely representative of the vast majority of american sentiment

they believe all the election conspiracies and think the country is 80-20 in their favor
The response to the ICE killing of Renee Nicole Good is not what the White House was expecting.

Like with their hiding of the Epstein files, part of the fundamental problem they are facing is that the stories the Trump administration has built their movement on are being shown for their emptiness.

That's ultimately the larger reason to go maximalist. Republicans have taken as an article of faith that the EU are pushovers and will do whatever they're told to do. They need to dissuade them of that belief, and very little does that as effectively as a Mozambique drill on the US economy.
I think the long term, playing-out-over-decades lesson here is that Republicans are a national security threat to the EU
January 11, 2026 at 6:00 AM
I don't see how the EU can approach this any other way. Go for broke, either the military revolts, Trump gives up under economic (or other) threat, or the US government falls. They have to push the US into helter skelter or it likely isn't strong enough.
I kinda think that the EU can't half-ass this though. Trump isn't going to listen to a deterrent. They need to aim to crush him, and that means crushing the economy and ending this fast. The EU will absolutely be willing to withstand the pain longer than we will before all hell breaks loose.
