I hate to say it but the majority of the country is not going to die on the hill of trans rights. We can’t protect ANY groups if we can’t win a national election, so purity tests only serve to make specific groups feel triumphant. That’s not “erasing” them; it’s long-horizon strategy.

Yeah the difference imo is that the money is supposed to be supporting the kids, who are separate people with additional needs. The parent isn't "getting" $5k; at least in theory the kid is. It's like child support.

I'd *really* like more EVs + solar for rural folks who don't have other good transport options. People on my rez back home spend so much on gas and there's a lot of room for installations. Add in bidirectional charging, and people could weather the occasional power outages too.
