But parents only get a benefit while their children aren't yet adults. So it's temporary. A theoretical tax on the childless would be for the rest of their lives if they don't have children. Very different dynamics.

the whole thing about the Scottish and Welsh flags and why they can't be successfully weaponised like that is that they are /not/ markers of whiteness qua whiteness. If one wants to establish such a neutral status for the English flag too they need to attack that point head on by definition!

for a start, if you're going to make the case for a Progressive English Identity - a thing that can absolutely exist if it is willed so because again identities aren't static - you should somewhat obviously start by unlinking it from whiteness!

“white working class” is an inherently reactionary concept. it takes working-class issues - which apply to all working-class people - and turns them into white racial issues, which erases working-class POC and only divides working people.
