But parents only get a benefit while their children aren't yet adults. So it's temporary. A theoretical tax on the childless would be for the rest of their lives if they don't have children. Very different dynamics.

Assuming those two actually are opposites. A tax on childless people sounds like a tax on people who have never had children, while a subsidy for those with children sounds like something that ends when said children become adults.

I bought some new ink for my fountain pen. First time using it yesterday, I used a dip pen and the butt end of a Platinum Preppy. A bit messy, as I drew freehand with zero planning and also my dip pen kinda exploded while I was drawing.

You don't need to pay to use Typst either? The web app is like Overleaf, the actual Typst compiler is a regular open source binary.

Oh, I've seen that a bunch of times. Something like "gas is a great & effective weapon, we don't use it cuz" followed by either "we're morally superior to those old timey savages" or "we're ruled by total pussies and should be real men by bringing gas back to war".

One person showed me an example of a number type that could only be prime, but then said that obviously this is too slow for production so value validation would only be enabled for debug builds. Which makes me say, what's the point? And how is it better than ::new() checking validity?

They always say that the type system is super advanced compared to Rust, but beyond range types there doesn't seem to be much.

Honestly, I don't know why one would choose Ada over Rust today. Several Ada users have tried to convince me, but they can never articulate why beyond "range types are cool and also good programs shouldn't have references or pointers anyway so borrow checking is unnecessary".

It's hilarious to me, seeing the exact same people shit on Mastodon/Fediverse for years, now making similar but somehow even dumber arguments.

I've seen multiple times now ATProto fans say stuff like "the people here are garbage, this site deserves better users, who care about decentralization"

The function of the waffles joke is an in-group signifier. Singal, Graber, and Oppiliappan are showing in-group solidarity; they're all in on a joke. The joke is they have institutional power, and you don't, and they feel contempt for you, that you still want to have opinions about how power's used.

I think it's perfectly fine to believe that an actually conscious, living creature could be simulated by an excel spreadsheet but to be very frank you can't go around claiming people are "bigots" for you having failed to introduce any actual evidence you have produced such a being into the world
