Congress was once so powerful that they forced mass resignations of the Nixon admin and kept the CIA so hamstrung that they did Iran Contra. They reopened the fucking Kennedy assassination. They weren't *good* but they were still able to stand up to these clowns.

I'm so proud of everyone from my old neighborhood of Rogers Park in Chicago. I see what you have been and are doing. I am so proud of how organized the community is and how much more so everyone is becoming. It is inspiring. Just one example... And this is something EVERYONE can do. Everyone.
Informational flyer about Rogers Park Whistle Protocols, explaining how to use whistles to alert neighbors of emergencies, with color-coded alerts, steps for use, and encouragement to form a crowd and stay loud for safety.

Rumsfeld not resigning over Abu Ghraib wasn't the first domino but it was an important one, I think. Same with "we tortured some folks" on the other side of the aisle.

Even the Bush admin was running under Nixon, Ford, and Reagan men who had the impression that they needed to present a polished public image and still had the memory of the Saturday Night Massacre in their minds. No longer.

This is a good post about its specific subject and a great post about how to do anything cool on game production deadlines without having it get cut (being very intentional about where you drop the quality bar)

Six years ago, I wrote most of the Tragedian dialogue for Pathologic 2 in iambic pentameter. I'm back now doing the same for Pathologic 3. I figured it was helpful to write a guide on *how* I did it – in case I get hit by a bus and the team has to carry on without me.

I think somehow this is her trying to smooth over things with the DNC? I remember her campaign was furious w Biden for torpedoing it before it even started. She was forced to approach it as continuity rather than change. (All just marketing anyway bc they never even had a platform)

A genAI-driven assassination drone doesn't actually need to be able to identify anyone, it can safely kill fuckin whoever and whatever bc they still have plenty of use for that. But that's enough lifeboat for Microsoft and Google and that's probably it.

I think cops and the military and maybe the alphabet agencies will continue to be customers bc police forensics was always bullshit and never needed to actually *work.* The problem is that the technofascists have so over-leveraged that even mountains of military pork spending can't dig them out.

These guys now are selling magic beans back and forth to each other with money *they can't possibly afford* each desperate to not be left holding the bag because they all know that:

There is no pivot to a new grift left.

One way of thinking about the AI bubble is that it's the final gasp of a grift based on specialized GPU's instead of tulips, a logical continuation from crypto and NFT's and the metaverse.

Like, there's nowhere else for it to go, no other magical use for this shit other than as electronic waste.
topmarx.bsky.social
We don't even get the data centers when all this shit comes crashing down. Like crypto farms, that hardware is only good for its specific purpose. They're gonna sell all that shit for scrap or bury it in a dump somewhere. It's a wasteful squandering of scarce resources.

GenAI freaks calling us Luddites is so aspirational for them bc it implies their bullshit is capital and had productive value. They've never been able to demonstrate that, that's why all their shit is collapsing.
topmarx.bsky.social
A particular brainworm I've been mulling over is that they call us Luddites to imply that their genAI bullshit is capital and had productive value. Even the hardware is so specialized it really can't be repressed. It's not even like we can make use of most of these data centers after genAI collapses

Speaking too loudly, then and now, would draw attention back to how Obama's annual removal rates were crazy fucking high. They've never been surpassed. Trump is putting on a show and being more publicly brutal, but all this shit *might* equal an Obama year. *Might.*
