You’d think if you lived Quite A Long Way from the south coast they might consider this. Mais non.

What have you even been doing with your time if you haven’t been visiting Nuneaton to see #GeorgeEliot ‘s mantilla and buying a marrow
Badly photographed mantilla which once belonged to the novelist George Eliot Statue of George Eliot in Nuneaton town centre Baked marrow stiffed with lentils

I mean this was in the 1980s although it was probably even harder to get then. Same brother took me to France - was doing A Level French and had never been. The examiner expressed surprise - but guess what - not everyone’s parents can afford foreign holidays! Still makes my blood boil now 😡

Loses the entire evening

I did manage to taste it though because my cosmopolitan brother procured it from France 😁 as a confirmed Francophile he would not have questioned why anyone would want to drink it.

Green chartreuse was my affected teenager drink of choice entirely because my role model Iris Henderson (played by Margaret Lockwood) drinks it on a train in The Lady Vanishes. Still a bit of a role model although I never did get to run off with Michael Redgrave. Still like a green chartreuse

Drinking a Moldovan red to accompany my stuffed marrow and getting the autumn vibe going #ConfinedCocktails
Dinner table scene with a plate and a pumpkin shaped serviette and wine, olives (with pumpkin shaped cocktail stick) and crisps in the background Half a baked stuffed marrow filled with lentils

@melindahaunton.bsky.social the weather forecast promised glorious sunshine but we only had overcast clouds so firmly in boot territory here!

The police may be able to assist with this.

A photo of a young boy in a blue waterproof coat looking up through a pair of binoculars at something unseen in the surrounding woodland scene. Text overlay reads: "have you cast your vote yet? Make your voice count in this year's AGM"

I know Handsworth well. I love it. The Soho Road is one of the most vibrant streets in the world. I was attached to the library there for a writing project last year and I wrote a whole chunk about it in my book Hope And Glory. Read it if you get a chance

Ah yes - the old Bull Ring... mind you good old Brummagem would not be good old Brummagem if it wasn't incessantly knocking bits down and building new bits!

Awful news from Wales, the St Fagan's Museum has been broken into and prehistoric goldwork has been taken. Its painful to think what objects might now be at risk. Thoughts with the museum team who must be devastated, all speed to the police and a curse on the crooks.
