They still love each other, and as Val puts it in the book: they both spent years looking for the right moment to reconcile, but it never came

And then the plot of GOR itself happens, which sends Val into a post-apocalyptic future. It's even harder to communicate 100 years apart :')

Part of it is just their personalities. Especially Val, who's just bad at words.
Mostly it's because their family lived through a major tragedy when Val was 12 and Amaranthe 19. This event ended in bitterness on Amaranthe's side, and a complete shut-down on Val's side for most of his teen years.

Whenever she can (aka, between missions), she comes back to her home town to visit her brother and their parents. She has a good relationship with all of them ^^ They're worried for her, of course, because her job choices are questionable, but they're all good.

Now, in ABYSS, Eishan and Lysandre aren't as tragic, haha. Lysandre is a very smart man who, in their joint backstory, saw the Plot looming and noped out immediately. He's a clockmaker and lives a nice quiet life :)
While Eishan hunts monsters in the titular Abyss.

Part of the tragedy of this book is that if these two could communicate, they would be overpowered. Hardware and software geniuses combined is frightening, especially given the magic system of this world. But they're both very flawed and very, very sad, and things don't quite turn out as expected

I will yap about GOR at any chance given

- Automaton-maker older sister, perfectionist, workaholic, prone to bottling things up and blowing up

- Genius "I'm not a wizard, but I did invent time-travel" younger brother, socially awkward, shuts down easily and keeps secrets

What could go wrong?

My character, Val, protagonist of my book GOR. He's a mid-twenties man, blond and greying, with medium length wavy and messy hair. He has dark red eyes and a long brown coat. Magic shadows drift off his back.

Val (young man, but appearing older than he is with greying blond hair and tired eyes, dressed in dark clothes and a tattered rust-red coat)

Am (slightly older woman, white skin with a slight sun-tan, short brown hair, with baggy pants, a tool belt, and a cape)

Yes!
Amaranthe and Valeriy (first pic) are the two MCs and POVs of GOR, and it's... difficult.

In ABYSS, Eishan (second) pic has a brother, Lysander. They have a pretty good relationship, though Lys doesn't appear in book 1 at all (he's smart and avoids The Plot).
