Everyone remembers learning about the First Martian War in history class, right. everyone had a map in their text book that looked something like this right

(something a lil different from my usual artistic fare... never done any sorta map before so it was an interesting change of pace)

Reading the book is always more interesting when you do it with the fact that it's an allegory for british imperialism in mind. IIRC it was originally supposed to have a FAR more dire ending, until Wells' publisher had him change it to the "martians all die to terrestrial illness" thing

i almost scrapped this entire thing after realizing most of the waters off Dengie are too shallow for her to sail in, but given I didn't want things to take place too far off shore (and I'd already made the map) I elected to ignore that issue

For the record, given Thunder Child is an entirely fictional vessel, I've decided that it is the very real HMS Sans Pareil in all but name; she was guard ship at Sheerness in 1901, and ALSO a pretty good match for the book description of Thunderchild (ram prow, twin funnels, low freeboard)

I'm at the scene where ICE abducted multiple people from Lincoln and Foster this morning.

A WGN producer was among the people taken, allegedly because she was among a group of bystanders who tried to intervene. ICE agents hit this car while making their getaway.
