The Apple TV series is quite good. Some major premise changes but overall good and interesting take on the rotting empire. - I went through all the Asimov books in my 20s - the Foundation and Robot series, not his entire oeuvre.
Good point. (I went through the entire series on audiobooks a few years ago, reliving my youf).

Zack Polanski is spot on 🔥

Thames Water's own shareholders are saying the company is worthless - PUBLIC OWNERSHIP NOW
“Privatisation was the experiment — and it’s failed. We have water companies pumping sewage into our rivers and charging us extra for the privilege.”

Zack Polanski says it’s time to bring water back into public hands on #BBCPoliticsNorth.
He means (Asimov Foundation novels) while meanwhile the secret Second Foundation (technocrats
/billionaires?) and the robots (becoming sentient?) actually control and order the future for the good of mankind. Meanwhile the Galactic Encyclopedia task ((First) Foundation) puts on a believable front.
Updates could prove expensive.

He’s doing exceptionally well. Can’t see any nerves now.
Btw, I by chance the full explanation for the hypnosis story and it’s very different from the headlines I’d noticed. The Sun put him up to it for a prank and he only agreed if they made it clear that he didn’t do things like that in his work, which they agreed to include in the story but then didn’t
So this is what you’re doing with your time? 0.o … XD. Went badly downhill with Jodie, I thought. I stopped there and have dipped in since to see how it’s going but never returned. Cap also I think will be looked back upon as much better than thought of at the time.

love seeing the media embrace the ~5-10% of young women who are actively right-wing and not mentioning that if young women were the only voters, Zack Polanski would be our next PM
He’s at least definitely vastly inept at being a political leader in power. His duo with Reeves is also beyond tepid.
I would just add that ideally the mental health dimension needs to be part of the approach. Being away from friends, loved ones, ordinary social contact has an affect. A great one in many cases.
So much fucking noise these days
@petemarchetto.bsky.social Ellie sends waves and good wishes. I was remembering days gone by on Discord, days in which you featured, and she asked me to send her best wishes.
It is very good at some health matters now. That kind of thing seems a good prospect. Relatedly, AI stethoscopes I’ve heard are better than human ears. AI radiography is better than the human eye.
Many stories now about people developing psychotic delusions that the AI is conscious and things like telling the user they are some sort of chosen one. Groups also of what I’ve heard called ‘robosexuals’ who fall in love and even marry their AI. And a terrible story out about a suicide for AI love.
Can’t resist one last thing…
The thing with it that beguiles is the sense of relationship. Some people get very attached to the models that are very strong on offering praise and such. I can understand that. Once critiquing it with someone his response was quite like I’d said his wife wasn’t really what he felt her to be.
Indeed. Initially I’d say she was all for it as fun and larks if one remembered it was a glorified chatbot. But of late she’s against its everyday Google like use because it does consume resources at a mind blowing rate and that’s only going to get worse and have so much environmental impact.
(I’ve got the hang of this rent thing!;) The other big nite of caution is that it doesn’t naturally challenge you. You might be an abusive partner but the way you describe a situation to AI it might sympathise with you, or mimic sympathy that is, and not realise you’re the one who with issues
And all that said, I’ve experimented with it in similar veins and honestly a couple of times got some almost astounding insight on my ‘way of being’ shall we say. Once it just plain said something that was spot on. Once I took some of a conversation to a journal and that revealed something … deep.
…he could actually fully take the information in without a rebellious barrier to authority that otherwise would have w made him ignore or question the ideas offered. HOWEVER…that is all well and good but the AI can’t then get him to grips with his grief, especially if he doesn’t know to ask for that
I said to him I’d hope any good therapist could have also told him that. But what I discerned after more time was that it had hit him like a ton of bricks because the info was not given to him by an authority figure, like a therapist (mum or dad in the ‘transference) and so ….
And one day it says to him he seems to have become stuck in life because he couldn’t live out his childhood dream, and not top of that he was in denial about his grief on this issue. That’s was like 20 lightbulbs for him and he seemed genuinely liberated by this feedback. However….
Companionship and therapy. I looked into this for a while. I came across a guy who’d undeniably had a huge insight and leap forward in his life by using ChatGPT as a therapist. He’d kind of rant at it about whatever he’d got bottled up about and ask it to really to him as if it was a therapist….
I mean, it can be surprisingly interesting to have ‘conversations’ with it now and then. I’ve used it to explore some ideas in therapy theory, but the trouble is you have to double check everything with another source as it’s happy to lie/hallucinate all the love long day. The main reported use is …
