People think that the tariffs are paid for by China. But they're actually paid for by me, Art Vandelay.

The Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and Super Bowl LII beg to differ on which city is the cradle of liberty and the city of champions!

Only times he's ever praised Palestinian militant groups that I can remember are (1) right after October 7th, and (2) right now

You can just not do things

I suppose this is why the media gives credit to Trump and not Biden ... Biden didn't do some fake signing ceremony.

Separately ... the idea here is that CBS and TFP are separate editorially, financially, etc, but also every TFP story will be re-reported by CBS as "TFP reports X"?
artsvandelay.bsky.social
Seems like dedicating your life to evil also increases the possibility that you will die suddenly.

Bit more seriously ... the combination of these protests and the other side's freakout about them, should help ensure the shutdown fight is focused on presidential power/impoundment.

Only issue is that once elected Dems say it's a constitutional crisis they have to treat it that way!

Don't you think it would be better if they dropped the "no kings" label and instead changed it to the "extend ACA subsidies" protest?

Raise the salience of an issue that polls well!

I remain skeptical that somehow the Democratic establishment's pro-Israel consensus will simply fall apart over night, if it would it would have already done so, but the fact is that there will be more new Mamdanis and more Sara Jacobs and more Greg Casars than new Hoyers, Schumers, and Bidens.

Just wait til it becomes clear Trump isn't going to bother to pardon a bunch of them on the way out.

There's a large contingent of people in the US whose hearts aren't bleeding for Palestinians, but are also pissed about what they see as Israel pushing the US around.

Pro-Palestinian might not be a winning mandate, but combine with "don't let Israel push us around" and it'll crush the opposition.

Semi-related, one thing I never understood is how the Iranian hostages were released within a few minutes of Reagan being inaugurated, and somehow the popular history is this means that Reagan accomplished it.

Difference here is that hostages were being released *before* Trump's inauguration....
artsvandelay.bsky.social
Even the "liberal" media does this - good thing happens and they write "good job Trump" as the subhead, something they don't do for any other president.
jeffreywuhl.bsky.social
@mtsw.bsky.social Trump being lionized for getting 20 hostages back whereas Biden got basically no credit for getting over 100 back….any idea why that might be?

The controversy over Columbus Day used to be kind of Tony Soprano type guys who were taught that Columbus was a great explorer in grade school and just didn't want to think hard about it. Trump by contrast explicitly likes and endorses the genocidal stuff

"President Trump issued an official proclamation declaring Monday, October 13 'Columbus Day.' The proclamation goes on to present a white Christian nationalist version of American history with much more emphasis on Christianity than Trump’s previous proclamations." open.substack.com/pub/heatherc...

Same way he praised China's massacre in Tiananmen Square, egged police on against protesters in 2020, always threatens to bomb places, removed protections for civilians for drone strikes ...

he likes it when civilians are killed by the state! He thinks that shows strength!

These "legacy" outlets mostly have clout because of their reputation, not readership/viewership, and the reputation comes from having *some* actual principles, unlike say Fox News.

Once Bari Weiss takes it over, it loses the remaining thing that gives it influence. It's just a smaller Fox.
artsvandelay.bsky.social
It should really be anathema for people left-of-center like Clinton to have anything to do with CBS at this point.
premthakker.bsky.social
Update: Bari Weiss’s first pitch at CBS — a roundtable with Antony Blinken, Mike Pompeo, and Hillary Clinton that ended up being a virtual interview with Clinton & Condoleezza Rice — has about 150 viewers on YouTube.

Added with the 24/7 CBS stream, it’s just over 1200 viewers.

What does the expectation about who would win the ensuing war have to do with anything?
artsvandelay.bsky.social
It will seem odd to many future observers that most people in our time period just kinda lived their lives as normal, instead of constantly yelling and freaking out about politics.

If what he says is true then I suppose 100% of Jews in Israel, plus 100% of Jews elsewhere with the means to take a week off and buy the plane tickets, go to Jerusalem on Sukkot every year.

Also Passover and Shavuot.

In fairness they explained their reasoning by saying it's the same as the last time the case came up to SCOTUS.

The last time the case came up to SCOTUS ... they did not explain their reasoning.

Sotomayor and Kagan also dissented, though they did not join KBJ's opinion. We can safely assume this was 6–3.

The majority did not explain its reasoning, but suggested that the government faces a "harm" by maintaining TPS—one greater than the harm to 300,000 Venezuelans who may soon be expelled.
artsvandelay.bsky.social
Didn't he explicitly say that it's what happened?
