The end of federal enforcement of special ed laws. Some states - including MN - will likely be ok. But a lot of disabled kids in a lot of states are going to lose the education that federal law and decades of jurisprudence say they are owed.
Education Department wipes out special ed office in shutdown layoffs, union says
The Education Department laid off nearly everyone at the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services.

Does "wrestling match" count as a film genre

Greatest genre stew of all time? We have SF(both then-modern and classic), horror, action, comedy, Western, maybe a bit of noir, what else

I'm just one person, and my programming needs are somewhat unusual (building various kinds of statistical forecasting models). But I'm just not seeing the consistent productivity gains from LLMs that I would have expected if you'd asked me 6 months ago.

One thing AI is good for is reminding people how even the very worst movie they’ve ever seen is better than AI “movies”

Due to Tennessee’s abortion ban, Mayron Hollis was forced to continue a pregnancy that threatened her life. An emergency delivery left her without a uterus and her baby with medical issues.

This was their first year in a post-Roe state (pub. Feb. 2024):
She Was Denied an Abortion After Roe Fell. This Is a Year in Her Family’s Life.
Tennessee law prohibits women from having abortions in nearly all circumstances. But once the babies are here, the state provides little help. We followed one family as they struggled to make it.

In which we're tsidetracked by a tsunami, chroming our chrskull, and clowning around with reactionary clods

Today for patrons I've some archival writing on the films Vinyan, Laid to Rest, and Terrifier

Vinyan: A woman stands on a path in the jungle Laid to Rest: A tall shadowy figure carries a body between two cars on a green-lit and foggy night. Terrifier: An obnoxious blonde tempts fate by sitting on a stoic Art the Clown's lap for a selfie in melodramatic pose inside a restaurant.

One of the most irritating things I frequently encounter from transphobes is oddly similar to anti-vaxxer logic. Namely, that scientific evidence which contradicts their opinion is simply dismissed outright. When confronted with evidence about gender identity, the response is always utter denial.

One party promises to end abortion rights, points to state level victories in doing so, and says "we spent 40 years to do it there, here is a 12 step plan to do it nationally."

The other party, doesn't.

It would be extra appreciated because I'm being accused of being a bad writer by someone who is manifestly a bad reader but angry about it or something

An ongoing thread of short story collections coming in 2026, of work weird/surreal/dark/uncanny/unsettling/ghostly/ghastly, across genres, so that they're all in one place that I can refer back to when I inevitably forget what books I was meaning to request review copies of:
