"Foraging in the wilderness: as much as 40% of the diet of enslaved persons came from foraging in the nearby wilderness that included forests, fields and marshes, plus fishing in nearby waterways. The items had to be acquired before returning from work or on Sundays when the slaves did not work."
A table-top historic marker titled "The Food Sources of Enslaved Afro-Marylanders" it has two drawings in color and one color photo of a former plantation.

For those unfamiliar with the Friend/Enemy paradigm to which I’m referring, the below thread might be helpful:

In far right spaces, you hear Carl Schmitt referred to frequently, in particular his emphasis on the centrality of the friend/enemy distinction. For people interested in understanding the influences behind those attempting to dismantle the liberal democratic world order, this is worth reading:

In this substack, I provide an explainer of Schmitt for those who need it, plus take up some points from @sharonk.bsky.social, @gregk.co.uk, and others here: Schmitt Explained, Plus His Critics and the Con of Sovereignty petergratton.substack.com/p/schmitt-ex...

Not splitting means not wasting energy and causing division by attacking those on your side even if you disagree with their tactics:
leahmcelrath.bsky.social
One of the central principles in the Hong Kong pro-democracy protest movement was:

Do Not Split
(In Chinese: 不割蓆)

When you are part of a decentralized movement against an authoritarian power, it is critical to respect the roles others play, even when you do not agree with all of their actions.

After spending 43 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, evidence hidden by the prosecution reversed his conviction. Rather than finally enjoying freedom, ICE abducted him for deportation

Depraved.

The Substance is an indictment of American culture. This is a brilliant movie so far.

“ICE kidnapped a community member here,” reads one. “Never forget/no nos olvidamos,” says another.

The signs have appeared across some of D.C.’s heavily immigrant neighborhoods where federal immigration arrests have escalated.
Signs popping up around D.C. note: ‘ICE kidnapping happened here’
The signs range in style and mark numerous locations where people have been taken by federal agents.

It’s fine to use “antifascist” or “antifa,” but it doesn’t matter much.

They operate under the Friend/Enemy paradigm: EVERYONE in opposition to them is considered THE ENEMY in their eyes.

What matters is getting comfortable being seen that way and refraining from engaging in splitting on our side.

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

I saw someone say that 79 years old is young and no it is not. Living until you are almost 80 means that you have been blessed to live a long life.
