A concerning number of people are interpreting this as 'oh so identity politics IS a distraction!' and, to be quite blunt, each and every one of you need remedial chess lessons; something can be intended to draw attention away from something else, and also a real problem which needs to be addressed.

It's pretty wild to me that investigators have uncovered that anti-trans campaigns are largely funded by the fossil fuel industry, and that the presumed motivations are pretty directly to redirect the public conversation away from climate change... and that this isn't bigger news.

I just see a rhetorical trick to make the second part of that statement appear as unquestionable truth, leaving you to only argue with whether it was a mistake. I think you should cast her words into fire like the poison they are, because really, who the hell says shit like that
