Dad has taken to sending the WhatsApp group he has with just me and brother in a photo from his daily morning walk each day.

After brunch, we went window shopping.

I learned this week that some (bad) sex scientists use pulse rates of 120bpm as an indicator of orgasm so don't worry, fitbit already think you're hitting an orgasm every time you head out for a nice bike ride.

So, that's how the plumpest, juicest, most delicious pheasant I've ever eaten fell into my metaphorical lap, and why that particular lad had a photo taken as he sizzled (so I could update the work group chat).

This was during Covid, the world had gone nuts and, thanks to restrictions on large social gatherings there were rather fewer shoots taking place locally and also far fewer cars on the road.

All three of them were veggies and all three were surprisingly chill about it, and appreciated that I'd *tried* to ensure there'd be no unexpected surprises.

They all also apologised for poking my dinner, which was very gracious of them.

Which is why I had to explain that:

- yes, it had been alive only an hour or so earlier
- yes, I'd killed it myself
- no, I hadn't tried to run it over
- no, I didn't think anyone would want to check on what the mystery bag contained

Which is why when I went for my first coffee of the shift I found three social workers stood in the tiny kitchen with the fridge door wide open, poking my Sainsbury's carrier bag.

"You were so subtle about what it was you had bought in, we had to see what it was...ALEX WHY DOES IT HAVE FEATHERS?!?"
