if ever there were someone who could turn in a finished project that wouldn't need to cost $150~200m but look as though it did, it's Soderbergh. that there was a fully-written script is probably what spooked them. Disney prefers an "action fx animatics 1st, then fill in the gaps" sort of filmmaking.

Disney, who just lost $132 million bankrolling a starring vehicle for Jared Leto, are perhaps poor arbiters of what moviegoing audiences will & won't want to see, but the timing of this w/ the otherwise out-of-nowhere rumblings of a potential 4th OCEAN'S movie makes a lot of more sense in context.
