THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL: Watched the new Criterion 4K. While RUSHMORE and TENENBAUMS are my #1 and 2, this is easily #3. Sadly timely, beautiful, melancholic, and very, very funny. It’s been a few years since I’ve seen it. Ralph Fiennes is perfect.

I never “met” Udo Kier (too nervous) but I’ve been in the same room with him a couple times. It was enough just to be around him. Coolest, weirdest.

I grew up a mile from Delmar Stadium, where this was filmed. I’ve flown kites there (as most people did there on weekends; it was known for that before the movie made it famous). I had my hair cut at Max’s dad’s barber shop. RUSHMORE wasn’t only shot in my town, it was shot in my specific area.
