I’ve spent the past three days directing a project that has been the most fun, relaxed experience of my professional life. My cast was amazing and my producers were wonderful. What a gift to wrap up the year with.

After months of saving, my family is flying to Las Vegas early tomorrow morning for a short two-day trip before heading up to Montana to see my mom and sister. The new threats of flight cancellations are stressing this already-stressed air traveler. Tell me something good. I need my nerves calmed.

I was inspired to revisit 2019's BODY AT BRIGHTON ROCK yesterday and god damn, that movie slaps so hard, it could leave a bruise. If you haven't seen Roxanne Benjamin's tense, ghostly, animal-horror, put it at the top of your list. It's freakin' *GREAT*.

I’ve found most film people who “do it for a living” are trust fund kids, which allows them to pursue the craft 24/7 without worrying about finances. No shade, but without acknowledging their lack of burden, it makes gig-juggling blue collar film folks feel like they’re doing something wrong.
Many full time creatives have “invisible safety nets” like bread-winning partners, trust funds, external support, etc. No shame on anyone, but it creates a false vision of success. The cost of going to cons alone on top of hoping to eat as a freelancer are untenable, IMO.
When people hear that I'm returning to part time work they often ask "are things not going well with your art?"
The problem really is things are going well, but the world is so unstable that I long for some consistency and income that I don't have to pay quarterly taxes on

You should only be interested if it's the first-of-its-kind that doesn't openly discriminate against LGBTQ+ people, doesn't funnel its profits into hate organizations that destroy lives, doesn't go out of their way to only hire Christian employees, and doesn't lick the president's boots.
