Walked around Washington state a bunch this past weekend🌲

Something that I’ve heard time and time again when I am tabling is how much people appreciate me ringing them up and saying out loud their total and asking if that is okay

Lots of folks are on a budget, maybe others don’t do the math or realize the price of everything. Always check before they pay!

This is the first market I’ve been at where people don’t assume I am the artist? Or that what I am selling is like hand drawn work? They keep asking “where is this from?” And it very much feels like they are asking if this is just art I find around and print out?

I don’t know how to put it to words

I normally walk five miles a day every morning as a routine and when I table I can’t do that. However, if I have an assistant I can walk loops around the space I am tabling when I get a break and work off that energy like a weird racehorse

Falling down a hole of finding a local market going all in on have vendors who sell AI work. Like I promise the craft community here is small, but powerful and has sunk other markets that treat us badly without even organizing. We just collectively leave like we share one extremely frustrated mind

If AI was so profitable all these hobbled together “companies” wouldn’t be hitting up my inbox incessantly, as they are with so many, to try to get me to hock their slop to you. They are desperate to try to get anyone they view as an influencer to sell their stuff, it is the same as any other scam

I have an ongoing set of work that I am calling the "long canvas animal series". These are four of my personal favorites from it: Pale Antelope, Leopard, Tiger, and Black Rabbit

What animal should I draw next?

May have said my most PNW statement yet in telling a friend “I didn’t love that coffee stand because the barista was mean about my star signs, but I did like the coffee so it is conflicting”

Went to the post office to buy stamps and made a joke about how empty it was since we’re so close to the holidays, and the person working the counter said “yeah no one is shipping stuff because no one has money right now”

Dark, but very true

I finished labeling my misprints so they can be sold at all my markets this season

But if you can’t get to any, Inprnt is offering free shipping on perfect prints with orders over 30 USD worldwide right now! That’s a great deal and it ends tomorrow!

When you go to buy from an individual creator this season please remember the price at checkout (in person or online) is not what they will see reflected in their account

Fees, immediate taxes, and future taxes cut what they would make often in half

We price for that, so please be understanding!

Crawling out of my early seasonal depression because I remembered latkes exist and can be made

Another new bit of client work, this time for Bicycling Magazine with Senior Designer Eleni Arpino (Dimou). The article this illustration was for is “I’m A Personal Trainer. Here’s Why I Don’t Tell My Clients To Lose Weight” by Natascha Grief

Oh no the people at the coffee shop complaining about how their adult kids won't use ChatGPT to make their life’s “easier”. I fear this is more common than I’d like to admit

The amount of people in my life desperately trying to get me to use AI to make my art is weirdly high so I guess I knew this

Whenever language around what people deserve and what they don't deserve in the US comes around I am reminded at how much this is a game to people, how they can't fathom real lives

Not just politicians, but literally our neighbors. The cruelty people will put onto others without a second thought

A pug I don’t know came up to me, sat on my feet, and just stared up into my eyes. His owner came to find him and said he doesn’t do this normally, but how do I tell them not to apologize cause a dog just deciding it randomly likes me a lot is probably enough dopamine to get me through another month

I made the hard choice to pause my Patreon at least until the new year. I posted there, but just in case anyone who is a patron didn't see it yet

I'm exhausted. My body has developed muscle twitches again which means I'm at my breaking point. So I will focus on tabling at least until the new year

Last year on election night I took a friend to the ER at midnight. I had expected the election results, but it still was bad especially as the other folks in this waiting room were giddy about it

Tonight is a small but significant push back, I celebrate with veggie tacos and no emergency rooms

US friends, please go vote today in local elections (I voted early by mail already). Fewer people turnout in smaller elections so your engagement really matters.

Lots of adoration for the person I saw just now riding a Lime scooter while yelling out Lady Gaga’s Abracadabra like it was a very serious Shakespearean sonnet

May we all live life like this
