I look at that graph and think about a new argument in the “should LB and FM have been dropped”.
If OLYMPIC goes ahead instead, how many A-bombs does the US drop on Japan in November 45?

I mean it comes out of simulations to improve some analysis metric so maybe. I’m sure SPO will need dedicated scan strategies to maximize the BICEP SPT synergies :)

You know, despite *gestures at everything* I am still quite happy this week, because some work I did for a telescope’s scan pattern 🔭 is going to be tried in the field.

Wow that’s one spicy data point for the US natural experiment in “what if we destroyed our comparative advantages?”

I am delighted to share that Nobel laureates Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee will join our Department of Economics @econ.uzh.ch at the University of Zurich on July 1, 2026, as Lemann Foundation Professors of Economics.

Ladies and gentlemen, we did it. SB 79 has been signed.

You unfortunately have to still be alive to get the prize :/

Thinking about who will win the Nobel Peace Prize tomorrow and my outside the norm guess is some connection to USAID. The agency has saved millions over the years until Trump illegally pulled its funding. Sadly if they did win they haven't the humility to realize it would be an insult to Trump.

Don’t you need a single bullet hole in a ship to convince the public there is a menace to be stopped?

It is pretty galling that the Supreme Court spent four years telling Biden "you can't do that without Congress" then allowed Trump to seize a once-unthinkable amount of power from Congress within nine months and concentrate law-making authority almost entirely in the executive branch.

Yeah not disputing that drones have a good synergy, just emphasising that air and artillery have been associated ever since airpower has been a thing!

The more we automate farming the more people can make art but yeah, someone needs to wash the patients in the assisting living facility on the commune. And specialization brings productivity gains so it will often be the same someone scrubbing 85 year olds.

I remember when Buzzfeed let the neoliberals run a "What Will Your Job Be Once The Revolution Happens?” quiz where no matter what your answers were you got “Forced agricultural labor".

🏅 Former Berkeley Lab senior scientist John Clarke has won the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics. His research on quantum tunneling in electric circuits paved the way for today’s quantum computers and sensors. 🧠 This brings LBNL’s Nobel count to 17!

I think organizing a pro-Intifada stand in front of the main University building (complete with paper mache frond) on October 7th is not the best look. It might give the impression you don’t care about war crimes if they happen to Jews.

Deleted a previous post because Devoret did go back to France and made research director at the CNRS before moving to Yale again.
