Adventures in framing:

Headline presenting this as a real-world question. Rather than as another sign of deepening vortex of narcissistic delusion and detachment from reality.
Headline: Trump Has His Eyes on Nobel Prize. Will He Get It?

This article hasn’t explained a single thing about how this happened. I didn’t even get a sense that Jared knew how it happened.

Get to a yes first and then work out the details? Why would I give you a yes without details? What does that even mean?

“I’ll declare war on you if you don’t give me the peace prize” is an incredible bit

This was a pretty poor story in that they don't point out that at least half the reasons he gives are completely bonkers. For example, he has not stopped 8 wars.

Reading proficiency in 3-8 Grades jumped nearly 10%, from 42.5% to 51.4%, on the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program because of 3 Grade. One key factor is they escaped Zoom school and other disruptions caused by the pandemic.
These test takers are leading the pack

The application deadline for the Congressional Science Fellowship is on Nov. 4, 2025. "This is a unique opportunity for scientists to spend a year working at the intersection of science and policy, contributing their expertise directly to the legislative process on Capitol Hill." #physics

Shocked, shocked that this could have been done months ago (no I am not)

From the memory hole: There was a hostage release and ceasefire deal in place by the Biden administration 10 months ago. It was allowed to expire in March, under Donald Trump, and now it's been revived and rebranded, with Donald taking full credit like always.

"Pratchett once listed G K Chesterton – whom we have to thank for “Chesterton’s fence”, the principle that we should hesitate to tear down a fence (or regulation, or social norm) until we are certain why it was erected in the first place – as his favourite under-appreciated writer" Loved his work.
Has Kemi Badenoch actually read Terry Pratchett?
She claims he’s her favourite author, but his books have a few lessons for her

Thinking about who will win the Nobel Peace Prize tomorrow and my outside the norm guess is some connection to USAID. The agency has saved millions over the years until Trump illegally pulled its funding. Sadly if they did win they haven't the humility to realize it would be an insult to Trump.

Ironically, red states are more dependent on the expiring healthcare tax credits that Democrats are fighting for.

People ask what they can do in this moment: here's a crucially important election. There are 52,000 elections taking place next month, many of which will be determined by turnout.

Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this year‘s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. Gift link: nyti.ms/3IWXbiE

I sometimes think they see the confusion over terms as a feature not a bug… (reminds me of scholarly publishing in which an article was the abstract, and the full text article was the article…)
