A useful animated video, illustrating how everyday noises—ones non-autistic people may not notice—can overwhelm an autistic person, in some cases leading to bolting and meltdowns that uninformed people dismiss as "autistic behaviors." Please watch and share.

What should worry Canadians is that this isn’t about a few hard cases or the occasional slow form.

#Indigenous Services #Canada has acknowledged a massive backlog — about 140,000 requests in late 2024 and roughly 135,000 as of February 2025 — including thousands marked urgent.

That’s a failure
Jordan’s Principle isn’t a “program” — it’s a legal duty
Her occupational therapist filed the paperwork months ago. The request is still in a federal queue. Maya grows; the tub doesn’t

Disabled people should not be forced into institutions just because you don’t think they “deserve” housing and support.

Institutions cost the tax payer more money, but they also rob people of autonomy and control.

With adequate support we can retain our independence which helps us thrive.

Since IEPs are coming out, here's a reminder that they're actually not considered legal documents in Canada

#OntEd #autism #SpecEd
"In Canada, while IEPs are required and regulated by provincial education ministries, they are not enforceable through the courts as legal contracts. Instead, they serve as important tools to guide the education of specific students."

Are IEPs Legal Documents In Canada?
In Canada, Individual Education Plans (IEPs) are not legal documents in the same way they are in the United States.

I was a nonverbal kid and honestly it makes me very uncomfortable knowing a good chunk of USAmericans and RFK jr felt I shouldn’t have been allowed to live because of it

I’m very privileged for eventually gaining communication skills, but they describe kids who were like me. I was one of those kids

My latest for @msnbc.com: The Trump administration's gutting the special education personnel not only betrays people with disabilities; it rolls back the work of four Republican presidents who passed bills for special education (Nixon, Ford, and the Bushes)

Opinion | Trump's mass firings strike a hammer blow against Americans with disabilities
The GOP once supported special education programs. Recent dismissals at the Education Department put an end to that support.

“It is unconscionable for people with disabilities, in violation of their rights and with the potential for devastating consequences, to be moved from their homes without their consent as a way to navigate an evolving labour dispute,” Lattanzio said in the release.
