Wes Morgan is one of my favorite combat journalists out there, so it meant a lot to have him on the pod to dissect the glorious agitprop, Lone Survivor. And also to go deep on its spiritual precursor, The Green Berets.

Loved having my friend Osita Nwanevu on the pod to talk about the epic of all epics, Lawrence of Arabia. Also, buy his extraordinary (and extraordinarily timely) new book, The Right of the People!

Link to his book in the comments.

Do we want the national security state to either support Democrats or resist Trump?
In our latest episode, we watched The Report, the 2019 film starring Adam Driver that depicts the true story of the US Senate's "torture report" @bangbang1492.bsky.social www.youtube.com/shorts/lMXLB...

You can’t do rational deterrence in a country whose politics are grounded in conspiracy theory. One of many insights we get from Dr. Strangelove, Stanley Kubrick’s ultimate classic. Don’t sleep on this episode of the pod! @bangbang1492.bsky.social

Can't think of many films (in this case a miniseries) that have wrestled more seriously with the trials and tribulations of political violence than Carlos. And it was such a pleasure to have the journalist @noahhurowitz.bsky.social (author of El Chapo) on the show to make sense of the work.

We covered this during my guest appearance on @bangbang1492.bsky.social podcast with Three Kings. Saddam invaded Kuwait partially because he could not pay for the bread, circuses and services needed to maintain rule in addition to needing to pay back his creditors.

the basic rule of dictatorships is there are some people you cannot fuck over, you can't survive everyone being unhappy all the time, if you keep your people happy you can ride out discontent but letting it get that far is already a major fuck up!
