I teach HS social studies and also a book reader and this is something I think about a lot. Kids are so "fill the sheets/get work done"-itis that they just never engage with books. Need like, interesting short ones that kids will actually talk with each other about.

My take on this is that we need to shove all the nerds who keep coming up with these wacky academic meta analysis's on left-liberal messaging problems in a locker and start talking about what policies we all agree on and want to do and how they'd be helpful to voters.

Trying to modernize the Badgers into a spread team was a noble effort but this is Wisconsin. They‘re allow to have Penn State’s ceiling. Get all the large people and run the shit out of the ball and have a top 10 defense.

My Spurs tactical thought is that we're setting up in the Brentford 1.0 system and attacking in the Brentford 2.0 system. But we don't have the passers to do the 2.0 attack so everything bogs down. Just run and shoot the dang ball.

And I think my brain is just melted from the start of the year already but...now I guess I have no idea anymore what should be a formative grade in the gradebook. Are there any studies or driving thoughts on this? I want as AI proof/in-class stuff as much as possible I guess.

@madisonteacher.bsky.social I have a weird/maybe dumb question for you. My building has been shifting towards SBG for the 2-3 years ago now and our new admin killed it for 6-12 this summer. (Don't hate that) I've slowly made all my lessons fit the "no homework/practice grades in the gradebook" thing

this started last year with how miserable the Spurs season became but my soccer morning routine has become watch the 1. Spurs match, 2. look for a PL where teams are going to go for it, and the 3. switch over and watch a silly Bunda match

The Ezra Klein piece is good. He stops where this convo always stops. "Dems need a real platform. What is it? No idea!" We need that piece to put the heat on the Dems to do it. If we had a draft, I probably start with @ryanlcooper.com and/or @prospect.org. Pick the policy outcomes we want and go.
