How refreshing to read an analysis of the White House mtg by people who have actually been in the room for these types of discussions/negotiations.

Here’s one from the heart of winter — and the heart of Canada.

It was 1998. Ice storms rolled across Ontario and Quebec, snapping trees, crushing power lines, and leaving millions in the dark.

As a single father, I raised two sons, one attended university, the other community college. I observed that the curricula, teaching methods, and attitudes from primary to high school levels failed to engage male students. It was truly challenging to maintain my son's interest in studies.

"Trump is the most transactional and intractable president we have ever faced. We must adapt with every arrow in our quiver. That’s what Carney is doing." — by Andrew Cohen

Another cheerful visit to Washington ends without a deal. Canadians should prepare for the long game — our prime minister (rightly) is.

This is a great & important speech by Minister Joly.
Too many highlights (lol):
Algoma Steel new orders from Irving shipyard and Seapsan for Canadian ships.
Alouette Aluminum went from Q1 4% sales to the EU to Q2 57% sales to the EU.

In 1988 Canadians were warned about free trade, in 1994 that Walmart wants ALL the business not a share. American exceptionalism now in the White House. Canadians have to continue the boycott, find and exploit any American weaknesses and their greatest vulnerability is exceptionalism.

The reporting is incomplete unless we know what the number of Canadian officers doing the same in the US is by proportion. I doubt it is 0. I know that there is travel back and forth, possibly some integrated training, system harmonization, joint investigations, undercover ops at the least.

How many Canadian officers are stationed in the US?

I suppose being able to say *we're in the right!* evokes a degree of pride just like yelling at the raving crack addict on the street corner to quit using or smashing into a merging transport truck on the highway.

The fall out of Carney's latest visit with Trump:
After bragging about Canada joining the US, Trump made it clear he is determined to destroy our autoworkers and steelworkers.
But Danielle Smith and the planet burners are over the moon.
They say this is "love language."

They will theoretically be paid for work during the shutdown if funding is eventually approved. Can't happen in Canada because defeat of an Appropriation Act, i.e. Main Estimates, is non-confidence and triggers an election with funding continuing under Governor General Special Warrants.

No harm in responding "sure thing" to this Star Wars Spaceforce nonsense especially if it provides some trade concessions.

How do you spell ONE HUNDRED PERCENT TARIFFS? No, let's go all in and try for 200% tariffs and military occupation of our oil patch!

The time has come for the Government of Canada to publicly acknowledge that human rights abuses are being perpetrated by the Trump regime & that the United States is on the path to dictatorship. Canada always speaks out in defence of human rights & democracy, & should do so now.

Brilliant strategy. We’re trying to avoid being taken over by an adversary orders of magnitude more powerful than us, economically & militarily, and currently run by a sadistic dementia riddled psychopath. So ya, let’s do everything possible to piss them off. Shall we bring up his rape history too?

The only event that will end the madness would be an increase in the price of gas. No President has or will survive an increase in the price of gas.

When the First World War started, there were about 500 Muslims living in Canada.
Despite not having many of the rights others did in the country, 22 enlisted to fight for Canada in the war. One never returned home.
This is the story.

A black-and-white historical photo depicting a formal military ceremony. Several soldiers in uniform, some wearing distinctive hats, are gathered outdoors with trees in the background. One soldier is facing a senior officer, possibly receiving an award or recognition, while other military personnel and a few women in period attire, including large hats, stand nearby. Chairs are arranged for an audience.
