More so the type of hitter Arráez is is what this front office seemingly values.

I'd guess the street is named after my cat, Berry.

I do think Arráez is the type of hitter this front office covets, but I struggle to find a role/position with him. He'll have better opportunities to play, especially for a team that wants to add more contact.

Some names that could check off that box. Mike Tauchman, Harrison Bader, and Starling Marte are a few examples. I'd guess that Bader is looking more for a starter's opportunity and a multi-year deal, given the strong season he had. That probably rules him out.

The Giants' lineup could definitely use more hitters who reach base at a higher rate. Their .311 on-base percentage was 20th in baseball. Home runs will always be hard to come by, but putting more traffic on the bases should be a realistic number to improve.

One area the #SFGiants will likely want to target in free agency for bullpen arms is strikeouts. The bullpen had the 4th-lowest strikeout rate (7.93 K/9) in baseball, and while many relievers can effectively pitch to contact, that is one area they need a lot more of.

......that happen. They do have some financial flexibility to spend this winter, but the looming lockout could present some complications to that plan.

Cot's has updated its projected starting point for the #SFGiants payroll to be at $184M, leaving about $60 million below the $244M CBT threshold. This assumes that they tender contracts to all 5 (Maybe 5?) of their arbitration-eligible players, which I'd be surprised to see...

Rough estimate of #SFGiants CBT payroll heading into the offseason

Guaranteed contracts (6 players): $138.5M
Arbitration (4 players currently eligible): $5M
Pre-arbitration (16 players): $12.3M
Pre-arb bonus pool: $1.7M
Player benefits: $18M

Total: $175.5M

Pirates were clearly juggernauts this year.

wouldn't have guessed this, but the Brewers went 6-0 against the Dodgers in the regular season.

There were only 7 pitchers in baseball this season who threw at least 20 innings and did not allow a home run. If you guessed that Erik Miller, Matt Gage, and JT Brubaker were 3 of those players, then you deserve a prize.

The winner of this game will travel to Toronto to play Vladimir Guerrero III and the Blue Jays.

They kind of need to find some hidden value on the minor league free-agent market as well, which can be done. It happens every year.

There are some good names, but they may need to spend $30M+ to fix it. In terms of cost and effectiveness, the names I keep coming back to are Tyler Rogers and Raisel Iglesias. Maybe sign 1 of Kirby Yates or David Robertson and hope for a bounceback year.

The more I look at the Giants' projected bullpen for 2026, the more it feels like they will need to spend a lot to rebuild it, which is not a great position to be in. Like, a lot has to go right with those signings, which is often not the case with that market.

When you're one of the worst teams in that category in baseball, it's pretty alarming. That said, they don't really have the roster to build around matchups. They can maybe add 1-2 role players who raise the floor in those outcomes, but it won't be a sweeping change.

I would not expect much improvement from Adames in those matchups, as he has typically demonstrated reverse platoon splits.

In addition to adding a couple of platoon hitters, Matt Chapman (93 wRC+) and Rafael Devers (65 wRC+) need to be better against LHP in 2026.

As I mentioned yesterday, the Giants were one of the worst teams against left-handed pitchers. The wRC+ team leaders (Min. 50 PA) in those matchups are just surprisingly low:

Heliot Ramos: 107 wRC+
Willy Adames: 95 wRC+
Tyler Fitzgerald: 94 wRC+
