Pirates were clearly juggernauts this year.
baseballjeff1.bsky.social
wouldn't have guessed this, but the Brewers went 6-0 against the Dodgers in the regular season.

There were only 7 pitchers in baseball this season who threw at least 20 innings and did not allow a home run. If you guessed that Erik Miller, Matt Gage, and JT Brubaker were 3 of those players, then you deserve a prize.

The winner of this game will travel to Toronto to play Vladimir Guerrero III and the Blue Jays.

#SFGiants AFL roundup

Maui Ahuna: 2-4, 2 RBI

They kind of need to find some hidden value on the minor league free-agent market as well, which can be done. It happens every year.

There are some good names, but they may need to spend $30M+ to fix it. In terms of cost and effectiveness, the names I keep coming back to are Tyler Rogers and Raisel Iglesias. Maybe sign 1 of Kirby Yates or David Robertson and hope for a bounceback year.

The more I look at the Giants' projected bullpen for 2026, the more it feels like they will need to spend a lot to rebuild it, which is not a great position to be in. Like, a lot has to go right with those signings, which is often not the case with that market.

When you're one of the worst teams in that category in baseball, it's pretty alarming. That said, they don't really have the roster to build around matchups. They can maybe add 1-2 role players who raise the floor in those outcomes, but it won't be a sweeping change.

I would not expect much improvement from Adames in those matchups, as he has typically demonstrated reverse platoon splits.

In addition to adding a couple of platoon hitters, Matt Chapman (93 wRC+) and Rafael Devers (65 wRC+) need to be better against LHP in 2026.

As I mentioned yesterday, the Giants were one of the worst teams against left-handed pitchers. The wRC+ team leaders (Min. 50 PA) in those matchups are just surprisingly low:

Heliot Ramos: 107 wRC+
Willy Adames: 95 wRC+
Tyler Fitzgerald: 94 wRC+

That's it. Into the Harber you go!

Parks Harber: 2-3, HR, 2 RBI, BB, SB, HBP
Spencer Miles: 1 IP, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO

There are plenty of other options, and I doubt the Giants go back to platooning as aggressively as they did in the past. That said, they cannot be as vulnerable against LHP as they were in 2025. That might have been one of the factors in them missing the playoffs.

The Giants put up a 78 wRC+ against left-handed pitching in 2025, which was tied for the 3rd-worst mark in baseball. If they want to raise the floor of the lineup, that is one cost-effective way to do it. One free agent who dominated LHP in 2026 - Paul Goldschmidt (169 wRC+).

While the Giants' bullpen needs to be redone this offseason, they do have several options from the left side who give them same-sided leverage

LHH OPS against Joey Lucchesi - .597
LHH OPS against Erik Miller - .578
LHH OPS against Matt Gage - .574

Sharing this as well. He would lose some home runs, but I think it highlights that he has more pullside power than to the gaps, which could be successful at Oracle Park. It's not far down the line, but more a matter of getting it into the air.
baseballjeff1.bsky.social
...The Giants have highlighted the outfield as one area they could look to upgrade. I don't think they will be serious suitors, but he does check some boxes that they like/need that are tough to ignore.
baseballjeff1.bsky.social
...and the wildly volatile production range. There's also a big question about how his bat would play at Oracle Park, as his power is more so down the line than to the gaps. The front office might see his hit chart as something that could do well in San Francisco...
