While the Giants' bullpen needs to be redone this offseason, they do have several options from the left side who give them same-sided leverage

LHH OPS against Joey Lucchesi - .597
LHH OPS against Erik Miller - .578
LHH OPS against Matt Gage - .574

Sharing this as well. He would lose some home runs, but I think it highlights that he has more pullside power than to the gaps, which could be successful at Oracle Park. It's not far down the line, but more a matter of getting it into the air.

...The Giants have highlighted the outfield as one area they could look to upgrade. I don't think they will be serious suitors, but he does check some boxes that they like/need that are tough to ignore.

...and the wildly volatile production range. There's also a big question about how his bat would play at Oracle Park, as his power is more so down the line than to the gaps. The front office might see his hit chart as something that could do well in San Francisco...

On paper, Cody Bellinger is going to check off some boxes for the Giants this offseason (assuming he declines his player option). Power, contact, speed, defense, still relatively young, no qualifying offer. The big questions might be cost. He'll try to cash in on a strong...

Peguero threw his four-seamer against left-handed hitters, but it was not particularly effective. He might be better suited sticking with a sinker-slider mix to generate a few more swinging strikes.

Joel Peguero could be an interesting name for the Giants' bullpen next year. He throws extremely hard, but does not miss a ton of bats, nor does he get hitters to chase. He has the velocity for a leverage role, but the low strikeout numbers could set him for a lesser role.

Will Turner also get an 0-2 meatball down the middle like Gaetti did? Not that I still think about that.

Justin Turner, at 40 years, 317 days old, will become the oldest Cubs player to appear in a postseason game in franchise history.

The previous oldest was Gary Gaetti at 40 years, 45 days in 1998.

Cubs lineup tonight for Game 2 vs. the Brewers.

A little different look at the top with Brewers going with lefty Aaron Ashby in an opener/bullpen situation:

Justin Turner 1B
Nico Hoerner 2B
Kyle Tucker DH
Seiya Suzuki RF
Ian Happ LF
Carson Kelly C
PCA, CF
Dansby Swanson SS
Matt Shaw 3B

I think you can probably pencil in Joey Lucchesi, Matt Gage, and Joel Peguero as candidates. Erik Miller should have a key role as well, but they are extremely light on leverage depth.

...minor league free agency because the bullpen should be relatively open, so that a pitcher should see this as an opportunity to make the roster with a good spring.
baseballjeff1.bsky.social
The #SFGiants bullpen is pretty much up for grabs heading into next year. Buster Posey mentioned looking internally and through minor league free agency to bolster the bullpen, then mentioned larger signs and trades as an option. The Giants should have an edge in...

The CBT threshold for 2026 is $244M, so if this estimate holds, then they have about $69M below that threshold.

The arbitration number is hard to gauge because they could go in a few different directions, but arb salaries should be a relatively small part of the payroll.

Rough estimate of #SFGiants CBT payroll heading into the offseason

Guaranteed contracts (6 players): $138.5M
Arbitration (4 players currently eligible): $5M
Pre-arbitration (16 players): $12.3M
Pre-arb bonus pool: $1.7M
Player benefits: $18M

Total: $175.5M

...and high ground ball rate (49.2%), that I just really struggle to see the upside here. He remains on 40-man roster and out of options, but those 40-man roster spots are pretty valuable around this time of year.

Jerar Encarnación has .232/.257/.405 (82 wRC+) in 175 plate appearances across 2 seasons with the Giants. I know this season was plagued by injuries for him, but there's a pretty tough combination of a high strikeout rate (28.0%), low walk rate (3.4%)...

Sorry, Bericoto will likely be a free agent this winter as well.
baseballjeff1.bsky.social
I excluded minor leaguers who are expected to reach free agency this offseason, like Hunter Bishop.

There are a few interesting names. I'd guess maybe 1-2 get protected, and leaning toward Bednar being 1 of those players.
