So many of the leading voices in comics thought, opinion, and criticism got completely burned by corporate fuckery — most of my pals from CA don’t even read comics anymore, or at least not new ones

The dissolution of social media has also been devastating. Plus, of course, the rising horrors

I’ve also been noticing this — it’s not *just* comics, but I am of course more sharply aware of the decline in buzz for comics

When I saw someone posting about Power Fantasy earlier, I was like “Damn, this is how you know the book is a scorcher: someone actually talked about it”

Was talking with someone about how nobody seems to really *talk* about comics anymore, which is kinda strangling creator-owned titles, which rely on word of mouth to work. So might as well give this a shot.

Today is the birthday of writer, artist, & editor Joe Simon (Oct. 11, 1913-Dec. 14, 2011). With artist Jack Kirby, cocreator of Captain America, Manhunter, Boy Commandos, Guardian & the Newsboy Legion, the romance comics genre, & more. He also created Brother Power the Geek & cocreated Prez.

Last night at trivia there was a tiebreak for first between us and another team: “How many British planes were lost in the Battle of Britain? Closest wins.”

Well, I knew the answer was “a lot” but what I didn’t know was what constituted a lot of planes in WWII Britain. Was 50 a lot? Was 500 a lot?
