I am going to try harder than ever not to unnecessarily discuss depressing politics with my loved one this year. When I do have to, I always note that we will win; because this is something I believe.

_But also, you bet I will be making it lighter by inserting Yinglet resistance fighters into WIII_
I have no idea her political beliefs, life experience, or knowledge of transgender people. At the end of the day, whatever she believed, she ultimately treated me respectfully, recognized I was still fundamentally the same coworker she got along with.
When I was first transitioning during college, a coworker missed the meeting where I came out. She was older, and I made an assumption that she would perhaps be an issue. I was totally wrong. She came back, I blurred out what the meeting had been about. "Okay! Alexandria then?" And work continued.
Most people are good people, and will view you as a person, not as an object of disgust. Transphobes are lying to you. The world is not against us, the vast majority of people are just going about their lives, not sharpening stakes specifically for us.
A better, kinder world is possible. With horrible ugliness and cruelty comes the possibility to open people's eyes to the lies that they have been fed and the alternate cooperative paths that will benefit all of us instead of just enrich a select few through cruelty and suffering.

I also think that a lot of the harm of social media comes from the attempt to engage with a gigantic social context frame. People aren't built for that, it's why my strategy for "a bunch of people I don't know are mad at me and I don't agree and don't care about them" is "turn off notifications"
“i signed up to get a special text message every time someone i’ve never met decides they don’t like me” is the pitch that finally gets my therapist to start hitting me.
clearsky is the devil anyway. why would i care about losers who hate me? it's nobodies who are self selecting out of my life. everyone subscribed to listifications should turn that shit off immediately
This this this this this.

Life is too short to be anything other than kind to yourself

*shrug* I don't care to have an opinion on that when the fundamental premise strikes me as an unhelpful in fighting fascism or helping people find each other. It just doesn't strike me as useful, and when it comes to fascism, transgender, transsexual, it's all the same and illegitimate to a fascist.

Time cop: THERE HE IS GET HIM
Okay, finished reading it. I agree everyone should have access to transgender care. Cool, awesome. I don't see any reason to discuss the author or intention of the article at all, at least for me. But also, the premise is still one I don't think is useful at this point in time? What conversation?
I'm still reading the article and don't really have an interest in talking about it further, but I just right off the bat take issue with the argument at the core of it. Any society that is restricting medical transition will make the lives of those who do not need that as unbearable as it can, too.
I say that as someone who does need medication to survive, who has followed a modern version of the medical & legal transition path. My medicine is crucial to my survival, but even if it was not fascism would still threaten me living life as a transgender person. So why make the distinction at all?
I disagree with the revised version of the article people have been talking about. All else aside I disagree with the flow of "fascism threatens us, therefore we need to make a distinction between those who need medicine and those who do not". Fascism threatens all transgender people, period.
Yup, one of the happiest days of my life.
