*chromosome arm-specific removal of REC8

We built an experimental system for manipulation of oocyte chromosome cohesion using PROTACs, mimicking within 1.5 hrs chromosomal abnormalities that naturally arise over years to decades. BONUS: we visualized by live imaging chromosome arm-specific and centromeric retention of REC8 during anaphase!

Sharing some oocyte spindle love-an image taken by PhD student Phia Maddocks. This beautiful work is supported by our NIH funding. Without this funding, we cannot understand the complexities of fertility genetics. With declining fertility rates, this work is essential to human health.

Chromosome segregation errors are common in the early stages of human embryonic development. Read here our open access commentary on three recent studies of spindle architecture and positioning features that
could provide insights into why early embryos are predisposed to aneuploidy.
