Unexpected rabbit hole today is discovering that "Phwoar!" was first recorded by the dictionary in 1976, and 1972's Carry On Matron may be its first film appearance.

I thought I'd found an earlier 60s TV use, but it seems "Phwoar!" is firmly a 70s phenomenon.

Tapping off a warning from your engine room as you go into an extremely dangerous zone on a rescue mission seems like (a) lazily dumb writing (b) making the officer look like an incompetent moron who (c) should be dismissed at the court of enquiry as negligently responsible for any ensuing deaths.

Case in point: about 20 years ago there was a guy to whom the Soviet state arms manufacturer owed money. He kept having military equipment impounded at defence shows in the west as a means of recouping the money. Why aren't we saying that Russia's frozen assets are used to (at minimum) repay Ukraine
