I’m working on a AD&D retroclone named Bhakashal. I have completed the Bhakashal Spell Book, a tome with more than 400 new spells, designed for the setting and compatible with any old school fantasy TTRPG.

Search on www.lulu.com (print/PDF)or www.drivethrurpg.com (PDF) for “Bhakashal”
I play a “dead” game, you can find free PDFs for all the books and modules, or cheap second hand physical copies.

I have more gaming materials than I could ever use for virtually nothing.

I haven’t purchased a single WotC product either

Gaming can be cheap

This is a red line issue for me. You should be able to game on the cheap, accessories are strictly optional.

I gamed for years with only the core books and occasional module.

It shouldn’t be expensive
More art with a Bhakashal vibe.

Bhakashal has warlock towers and warriors who don’t look like tin cans.

Gotta like that sweet bucket hat on the guy climbing up the tower
Roger Dean brings the Bhakashal vibes.

Mounts play a big role in the setting, a giant lizard, known as a “Gess”, is a common form of transportation.

Canopies are also a thing.

Another candidate for Bhakashal Warlock art, by Jen Zee.

Colorful, bold, vibrant, deadly
They use swords!

With respect to melee they are the least capable class, worst “to hit”, fewest weapon proficiencies.

However, they have base d6 for HP, no weapon restrictions, and can wear certain kinds of armor (nothing too heavy). They can definitely fight better than AD&D magic-users.
Bhakashal warlocks don’t look like your standard pointy hat wizards who hide behind fighters. They have an unearthly, confident air.

This piece by Facezero, distills the vibe perfectly.
The Magisterial Don Maitz.

Maitz is a titan in the fantasy/sci-fi art scene, I love this piece, the details, the pose, the colors.

Top shelf
Right up there with the classic, “tanks run in while ranged spells and missiles are used, leading to friendly fire…”
But there are times when you need to address multiple fronts simultaneously, or times when a larger group full of noisy tin can fighters will ruin your much needed stealth

There are no absolutes with tactical decision making
It depends on the hat I’m wearing.

As the referee I don’t have a preference either way. The PCs do what they do and I respond to it.

As a player it’s a contextual risk/reward decision

Yes, you are making each group in the split more vulnerable as they are smaller
TTRPG Question of the Day

How do you feel about splitting the party?

This is such a common topic it has practically become a meme but is the concern real? Some say you shouldn't split the party cause it slows down the game, while others say it makes more tactical sense. What do you think & why?

I had this Michael Whelan piece as my phone wallpaper for ages.

Whelan is fantastic
