Today, take the time to learn whos land you are standing on, and how you can support them in their sovereignty. Learn the history of the people, and know that despite everything, they are still here and have not disappeared, despite what we are led to believe and taught in elementary school.

You truly cannot separate the history of Hispanic people and Indigenous people, and that too is inseparable from the transatlantic slave trade and the history of Black Americans across the continent.

We are not free until we are all free.

It's so important to me that Indigenous People's Day falls within the territory of Hispanic Hertiage Month because the history of both are so intrinsically linked. The effects of Christopher Columbus' horrific treatment of the Lucayan, Taíno, and Arawak people echoes to this day.
