I've been seeing a few posts floating around saying things along the lines of "I don't know enough about what's going on to say anything about Palestine"

Alright. Bet. Here's a short list of reading resources to get you started: A Thread 🧵

This is also not the first time I've recommended Persepolis on this page

Bonus highlight because my whole diatribe was too long to fit in a clip but Persepolis was mentioned in-game and I was Extremely Normal About It for about two and a half minutes:

I want to share some of my favorite panels from Persepolis, because I think they're incredibly important. This book is my favorite on the list - if you don't read any other rec, you should at least read this one.
An excerpt panel from Marjane Satrapi's graphic novel, Persepolis. It depicts a woman covered head to toe in black, including a veil. The text reads -
The regime had understood that one person leaving her house while asking herself: "Are my trousers ling enough?" "Is my veil in place?" "Can my makeup be seen?" "Are they going to whip me?" An excerpt panel from Marjane Satrapi's graphic novel, Persepolis. It depicts the back of a woman covered head to toe in black, including a veil. The text continues from the previous panel -
No longer asks herself: "Where is my freedom of thought?" "Where is my freedom of speech?" "My life, is it livable?" "What's going on in the political prisons?" An excerpt panel from Marjane Satrapi's graphic novel, Persepolis. It depicts Marjane's head and shoulders covered in black, including a veil. The text continues from the previous panel, she says: "It's only natural! When we're afraid, we lose all sense of analysis and reflection. Our fear paralyzes us. Besides, fear has always been the driving force behind all dictators' repression." "Showing your hair or putting on makeup logically became acts of rebellion."

4. This One Summer by Jillian Tamaki and Mariko Tamaki
Challenged or Banned in: Florida, Minnesota, Utah
Why you should read it: You remember what it was like to be not quite a kid but not quite a teenager? This novel is an honest reflection of that awkward time in your life.

So, this thread is going to be a list of challenged and banned graphic novels that I highly recommend, along with where they were banned and why you should read them. If you decide to pick one of these books up, let me know!~

Hi it's your favorite internet librarian here to talk to you more about banned books - more specifically, banned graphic novels!

They are increasingly present on banned and challenged lists, due to the visual nature of the medium. From 2021-2023 a graphic memoir was the #1 banned book in the US. 🧵

✨ It's Banned Books Week ✨
This annual event, supported by the American Library Association, aims to shed light on censorship across the country, and was fundamental to my choosing to become a librarian, so let's talk about it.

A thread 🧵
A graphic for Banned Books Week 2025, running from October 5-11. This year's theme is "Censorship is so 1984" which is featured on the bottom quarter of the graphic, with the word "censorship" crossed out in pink. On the right side it reads "Read for your rights" and on the bottom there is a URL (ala.org/bbooks) for anyone who is interested in learning more.

Six years ago, I wrote most of the Tragedian dialogue for Pathologic 2 in iambic pentameter. I'm back now doing the same for Pathologic 3. I figured it was helpful to write a guide on *how* I did it – in case I get hit by a bus and the team has to carry on without me.

Listen. ONE of the reasons I rock with Dolly (Capricorn Gang) is because she’s always proven to me that integrity may cause you pain, but it will never be the reason you suffer. Which is not to say that suffering won’t come, but it’ll never be because you abandoned yourself. That’ll keep you going.
