I've been seeing a few posts floating around saying things along the lines of "I don't know enough about what's going on to say anything about Palestine"

Alright. Bet. Here's a short list of reading resources to get you started: A Thread 🧵

Six years ago, I wrote most of the Tragedian dialogue for Pathologic 2 in iambic pentameter. I'm back now doing the same for Pathologic 3. I figured it was helpful to write a guide on *how* I did it – in case I get hit by a bus and the team has to carry on without me.

Listen. ONE of the reasons I rock with Dolly (Capricorn Gang) is because she’s always proven to me that integrity may cause you pain, but it will never be the reason you suffer. Which is not to say that suffering won’t come, but it’ll never be because you abandoned yourself. That’ll keep you going.

I know the world feels like its on fire literally everywhere, and you only have so much energy to do things - but an earnest effort to try always goes a long way. Your local librarians and educators will thank you for it.

💜 Happy Banned Books Week, go read something

The American Library Association uses the last day of Banned Books Week as a call to action day, Freedom to Read day. Things you can do include: calling your reps! Supporting advocacy organizations! Borrowing or buying banned books! Organize! Here's more info:

Well what can we do about it?

First, I encourage you to read literally any of the books on the list, not just because they're banned but because they're genuinely good books. And screw anyone who tries to tell you what you can and cannot read!

Second, October 11th is Freedom to Read day -

What books are being banned, and why? 4 of the top 10 books were banned or challenged due to "LGBTQIA+ content" - but all 10 have one overlapping reason: they were all claimed to be sexually explicit.

It's important to note that censorship always has been an issue on the national level - it's an issue across the board. In 2024, 72% of all challenges came from pressure groups and organized entities like elected officials and board members. Find more data here: www.ala.org/bbooks/book-...

Book censorship has skyrocketed in the past five years. In 2019 there were 246 reported attempts to remove books from shelves across the country. In 2024 that number has more than tripled at 821. These stats come from the ALA's Office for Intellectual Freedom:

✨ It's Banned Books Week ✨
This annual event, supported by the American Library Association, aims to shed light on censorship across the country, and was fundamental to my choosing to become a librarian, so let's talk about it.

A thread 🧵
A graphic for Banned Books Week 2025, running from October 5-11. This year's theme is "Censorship is so 1984" which is featured on the bottom quarter of the graphic, with the word "censorship" crossed out in pink. On the right side it reads "Read for your rights" and on the bottom there is a URL (ala.org/bbooks) for anyone who is interested in learning more.

James Baldwin to Angela Davis in 1970, discussing white Americans:
Or, to put it another way, as long as white Americans take refuge in their whiteness— for so long as they are unable to walk out of this most monstrous of traps-they will allow millions of people to be slaughtered in their name, and will be manipulated into and surrender themselves to what they will think of-and justify—as a racial war. They will never, so long as their whiteness puts so sinister a distance between themselves and their own experience and the experience of others, feel themselves sufficiently human, sufficiently worthwhile, to become responsible for themselves, their leaders, their country, their children, or their fate. They will perish (as we once put it in our black church) in their sins—that is, in their delusions. And this is happening, needless to say, already, all around us.
