actually insane that this is a thing we have to do still

is it not obvious that caring about people even if they don’t give a shit is an objectively good thing?

no wonder society is so cooked sometimes

I don't know how to tell you that you should care about other people

Fun fact: despite the enormous land mass, the population-weighted density of Canada — basically the density experienced by the average person — is the same as Denmark and close to the Netherlands.

Canada and Denmark are 3,000 people per km², while the Netherlands is 3,400/km².

its okay to think we're the best at something if we take that as an opportunity to demonstrate that through actions and continuing to improve it.

i guess this is what i'm thankful for this thanksgiving

this thought brought to you by having friends move to canada and hearing them realize the subtle differences from the US.

we have many many problems, but i think that this is our biggest strength and i hope we lean into it even more.

and, honestly, i'd rather be mostly loudly accepted and a bit loudly hated, than just quietly being okay by everyone.

because haters will always find a way to let you know, even subtly, and if we don't have people loudly being accepting then there's nothing to counter that. you just feel the hate.

we might not statistically be the best in polling or something, but i think that we're some of the loudest in both extremes - some of the loudest supporters, and some of the loudest detractors (of human rights).

lately i've been thinking a lot about acceptance and tolerance in different places i've lived, and i honestly and legitimately think that i prefer how it is in canada over anywhere else i've visited or lived.

toronto is by far the least midwest part of southern ontario but is still undeniably midwest and it is extremely funny when they think otherwise because they're so metropolitan its cute

I can only imagine that, if they overturn conversion therapy bans, that will truly only help asylum claims for trans Americans in Canada considering it is a criminal offence to provide, promote, advertise, perform, or profit from conversion therapy.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court hears a challenge of a Colorado law that forbids licensed mental health professionals from attempting to change minors’ gender identity or sexual orientation. Experts say the practice is "can be harmful, and should not be part of behavioral health treatment.”
SCOTUS wades back into the war on trans kids—and considers greenlighting conversion therapy
The science is in: the anti-LGBTQ "treatments" are ineffective and dangerous.

huge props to the reporters who seem to have asked every possible department and minister at every opportunity they could find what the hell is going on, nice to see the CBC continuing to do a pretty decent job at that

don't worry neoliberalism will surely be able to solve this through effective regulation and a robust taxation regime, two things it is definitely capable of doing

I agreed to do coverage for colleagues twice this week which means I’m working two, fifteen hour days.

This is now a caffeine tracking thread. Because why not.

RETVRN but it is just an irresponsible level of OTC drugs instead of bigotry and fascism

The fact that we can get Tylenol 1 (acetaminophen + codeine) without a prescription is great. Last time I did they just asked “30, 60, or 120”.

More things should just be OTC. If we can’t have doctors let me do it myself at least.

Probably because of how obviously and shamelessly reprehensible their behaviour is, if I had to guess.
